    Wow!

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=12508603&an=0&page=0#Post12508603

The investigation into the WCOOP Main Event has now been concluded.

We have determined, based on the totality of evidence, that the tournament winner “TheV0id” was in breach of the PokerStars Terms of Service.

In the interests of Game Integrity, “TheV0id” has been disqualified from first place.

All other WCOOP Main Event prizewinners in addition to the player who originally bubbled in 415th place will therefore advance one place in the prize pool. The necessary financial adjustments to reflect the revised tournament places will be made within the next 24 hours.

Please note that we are unable to release further details of this investigation, for reasons of confidentiality and privacy.

    Manager, PokerStars Game Security

Methinks that "Please note that we are unable to release further details of this investigation, for reasons of confidentiality and privacy." just doesn't cut it here! The reasons they banned him etc need to be brought out in the open. Sure it may show up some flaws in online poker but it is the only way that these problems are going to get the attention they deserve!

well if pokerstars thing this player as cheat, than they should name him and allow all online sites to ban him along with all casinos and poker forums. He should be shamed out of poker for cheating.

on a good note, I've moved up one place, yipee. But if this player knock me out, to I have a case to re-run the tournament? Legally I could look for damages etc from pokerstars, can of worms.

I'm glad they did this. This is going on all over the place and it needs to be stampted out.( most people can get away with it) I know for a fact that i was ganged up on in 50,100 and 200 stts by individuals playing numerous accounts.players like this need to be put on a data base and banned from all sites. fair plate to stars.

can someone elaborate a little on this story - i vaguely remember hearing something about mark telcher or his sister/brother both playing on the same ip address during the same tournament?

Stars hasn't publicized the actual findings, but the winner is suspected of having multiple accounts playing in the same tourney. This is specifically against their T&C's and they felt they had enough of a case to disqualify him after investigating.

I can understand them not revealing the basis on which they are making this decision, it would just be a roadmap for people to avoid detection.

Ie: if stars said "on the grounds that two accounts from the same ip were soft playing each other, we have blah blah blah", then cheaters would know they were looking at IP addresses and looking for softplay and so would avoid those things or find ways around them.
If they were to say "by comparing the sooper sekrit cookie we put on players machines when they log into a client, we have determined that these accounts were owned by the same person" would kinda blow their "sekrit".

Security by obscurity is NOT a good thing, but when there is precious little alternative, its better then nothing.

That's is my point as well BUT most of the guys who want to cheat will have done their homework. The only little problem in most of their plans is they haven't calculated their lost equity with the risk of getting caught if they win on one of their unknown accounts while playing a known one especially in such a high profile tournament such as this! I'd say PS are raging too as they also had the problem with the underage kid winning the ME one year! Was he disqualified too?

With regard to the security problems though I firmly believe that the whole lot has to come out in the open for the sites to improve their security. They may think that it will scare people away but it may have the opposite effect should they improve the security. At some stage it's a risk they'll have to take. At the moment they are way too fond of hiding behind the excuse of not being able to give out info because of security concerns (that and legal concerns!).

^^^ Lee Jones works for PokerStars right? Its not unimaginable that his insprirtion for that article came from a conversation/discussion with PokerStars execs during which they may have bemoaned the existence of players on multiple accounts in the same touney.

Lee Jones no longer works for Stars I believe.

The way online poker will probably head eventually is the only games people will play for serious cash is heads up as it the only game you can be 100% sure is legit.....

Was talking to Lee in Barcelona. He officially works for the EPT i.e. for/with John Duthie. He helped a lot to ensure the World Cup of Poker ran smoothly in Barca but his presence there was for the EPT (WCOP started the day after EPT ended).

He still appears on FT's like sunday million... i think its a little awkward for his eventual successor Paul Overton, but at big FT's Lee is still the perceived "face" of Stars.

As for the WCOP winner, couldnt happen to a nicer guy apparently!!! Not gonna win any popularity awards anyway. Karma? Besides the point tho....

On topic, i'm not extremely computer savvy, im computer competent tho, could anyone tell me the actual rules involving playing from the same house? I live with 2 brothers, both play poker. We have 1 main pc and 3 laptops total, router & wireless broadband. It's not violating any terms or conditions to play in this manner? Stars software dont allow us to play the same sng or cash game, nor would we want to. This is a rhetorical question i guess because stars emailed me on a different matter saying that "all accounts (from this location) are in the very best of order", which i assume means this is ok.

you could have a problem if you had 2 computers or 2 ip address playing the same tourney. This is what happen above. Get a computer degree, all poker players have them...lol
