Online electronics shopping & VAT

I'm thinking of buying a camcorder & am definitely buying it online since its a ripoff buying it in Argos, Peats et al. In some Dublin shops its selling at twice the online price!

Firstly, can I buy the camcorder from amazon.co.uk? I've heard of pixmania, komplett (doesn't have the camcorder I want), technikdirect.de so far, that will ship to Ireland.

Are there any other online shops you have used that you can recommend for camcorders?

Also, if I buy from an EU/ UK online shop, will I be charged any VAT, sales tax or anything extra by the Irish customs?

    Thanks,
    iBook

If it ships from within the EU then VAT will be included in the price and you won't have any extra charges. If it ships from outside (Jersey/Guernsey are outside EU too) then you might have to pay, depending on the shipping agent and whether Customs spot it.

Pixmania generally seem to have among the best prices on consumer electronics so I don't think you'd find a better price.

I think amazon.co.uk may have issue with shipping electronics goods to Ireland. I remember something about them no longer doing this due to the WEE tax or something.

Thanks jor el, I'm a little reluctant buying from pixmania since I've read a lot of negative reviews about them, though two people I know seem to have ordered with no trouble from pixmania.

I think the main problems with Pixmania are delivery (DHL have a habit of loosing packages) and when something goes wrong, as Pixmania's returns service is a bit of a shambles.

Order and pray would be the tip of the day. Rhyme not intended.
