Wii v PS3

I'm planning to purchase one of the above consoles. I note that pretty much the same games are available for both consoles, but how does the quality compare? I'm particularly interested in playing footie games like FIFA08 - is this game any good on the wii? i.e. are the controls and graphics any good? Is there much difference in price between both consoles at the mo?

    thanks for your help!

Apples and oranges. I have both systems. Wii is great for 2 players or more and just having a laugh. Graphics are comparable to PS2. PS3 is an excellent cutting edge machine. Games are high definition and it's got a Bluray player which is worth the money alone. PS3 suited to more serious gamers. Wii if you have kids or are a big kid yourself!

I wouldn't really recommend one over the other, both have a terrible lineup of games with some good stuff on the horizon, but perhaps the PS3 is a better choice if you just want to play stuff like Fifa...
    360 all the way tbh

this is ridiculous. why do people keep posting "x vs y" but in either x or y's specific forum, where you'll get a bias opinion.

also, they're completely different machines. you can't compare an apple to a CD.

Bought both on Saturdday - One from Santa or the kids, and the PS3 for me next Saturday.......

thanks for the replies (most of them!).

has anyone played FIFA08 on the wii? any good?

RE: PS3 - anyone got opinions on the new reduced version with 40GB, 2 USB ports, PS2 compatibility removed etc etc - is it a viable option?

Us Microsoft idiot's will sniff out anyone stupid enough to even consider buying a PS3 and have our say.

If you're not pushed about playing old PS2 games on the PS3, then go for the 40GB option.

Your asking people to make a desicion for you and giving very little ifnoramtion bar you want to play Fifa

    What are you intrested in?

Will you make use of the blu ray player?

having USB ports and tons of storage while fantastic is pointless if your not going to make use of any of it.

is there a particular reason you don't want a 360?

Any particular reason it's between those two for you? It sounds more like your choice should be between 360 and PS3.

as you can tell i don't know much about any of the consoles!

the reason i'm considering the wii is the cheaper price, plus I have briefly played the Wii Sports game which is good fun, but wasn't blown away by graphics. footie games are generally my favourite, so i'm interested to know if they are any good on the wii.

i have nothing against the 360 - i just assumed that because it is out much longer than both the wii and ps3 that they are more up to date....

    your advice is much appreciated

Well the fact the 360 is out much longer isn't very signifacant. Don't forget the PS3 was out a long time ago in US prior before it was released in the EU. Also sony were having issues rolling out functional cell CPU's in their consoles furthermore delaying the release of the PS3.

I was very close to buying a PS3 this weekend, I am not biased towards either the PS3 or 360 but I decided not to. Currently the PS3 has not got a huge amount of titles availible for it and its expensive. Also the major put of for me was that because I was so close to buying it this weekend, I was reading reviews of it and in alot of the graphics comparison in most cases the 360 had superior lighting detailing and texture detailing and more realistic effects. But then again, the Ps3 could be still classed as a young console. It may become the otherway around soon as more games are released and game developers discover how to use its sophistocated architecture. With the specs on the sheet, I expected the PS3 to be amazing compared to the MS 360 and quite frankly I'm disapointed. It has alot of fancy toys like memory card reader, Wi-Fi, blu-ray but for all that money is it worth it? Well the price drops make it more tempting but still for me, Its a no at the moment.

Xbox 360 for me and I never stop enjoying playing it with its large title range and up and coming title range and its beautiful graphics and lighting effects.

    My 2c's.

    Hj

The 360 is far more up to date than the Wii in terms of technology. It and the PS3 are roughly the same in terms of power (the PS3 has a stronger processor and more storage while the 360 has a better graphics card and more sensible memory arrangement), while the Wii is around 6 years behind(its essentially a slightly updated gamecube), hence the price.

The Wii isn't the console to get unless you specifically want Nintendo games. Of the other two, I'd recommend the PS3 because of its superior build quality to the 360(<0.5% failure rate vs approx 30% for the 360) and it has a much better list of announced games coming out in future since Sony have a larger base of developers, but the 360 does have more immediate advantages as it has a better list of games right now thanks to its head start.

Check out the list of games out for the Wii and the games coming for it, it's very different from the other two consoles. If you want sports games, FPS games, that sort of thing, the PS3 or 360 is more what you're looking for I think.

Personally I'd recommend the latter, I think the list of exclusives for both is about equal (though people will argue about that till the cows come home, it's all down to personal taste). Online play is better on the 360 IMO and it has a larger catalogue of games right now. Again though, check out the games out for them and the exclusives they'll both have, and then figure out what you want :)

To be honest, I recommend getting all three, so you never miss out on exclusives :)

    That's my take on it

I have Wii and 360 and will get a second hand PS3 if it ever justifies a purchase with cracking exclusives

Other than that steviec and koneko have given some sound advice

Oh yeah one thing I forgot to mention in my post above ^^.

Online experience on the 360 is fantastic, unbeatable. I've heard the PS3 is comparison is nothing to compare.

The Wii is quite attractive because of the price and the amount of enjoyable fun you can get out of it. But if you want good game play that is affordable but not too expensive, the 360 it has to be.

Guitar Hero 3 is multiplatform, and Eye of Judgement would definitely not be everyone's cup of tea, replace that with Uncharted (sometime in December).

    Yeah, I have.

I bought FIFA 08 for my Wii less then 2 weeks ago and I'm sick of it already. The graphics are horrible (PS2 style player/stadium animations) and the Wii controls are abit of a pain in the hole too (flick the remote up/down to shoot & slide tackle). EA also excluded the Manager Mode so you cannot bring teams up through the divisions or transfer players etc which to me was one of the main highlights of the FIFA series. Instead you have 3 Wii Party Games which are basically a waste of space if you are over the age of 10.

Over all FIFA 08 on the Wii is basically a repackaged PS2 version that is stripped to the bone with a quirky control system and some pointless add-ons. You should definatley go with either the PS3 or Xbox 360 if you ant to play some excellent looking, realistic football games.

(Btw I don't think the Wii is comparable to the PS3, only the Xbox 360 can be compared to the PS3. IMO the Wii is in the same bracket as the Xbox and PS2).

I've got the wii, it's good for a laugh ,but not for gaming.

I think it's a tidy unit and does what it's suppose to ,family fun.

The Wii is not a Wii Vs A.N.Other type console

    It is a Wii & A.N.Other.

Your question should be PS3 Vs. 360 (and buy the Wii later for the fun factor)

I have a Wii, aint played a decent game on it since RE4, its an Advanced Dust Collector that I cant get rid of it as it was a pressy, I might go buying a PS3 after Xmas, if MGS4 is really worth it, but for now im quite happy with the 360
    (since day one!)
