How to connect PS3 to a surround sound system

    I bought myself a 60gb PS3 last week (now I have a PS, PS2 and PS3 - a hattrick!!).

However, is it possible to connect the PS3 to my 3 year old sony DAV 550. Its a good 500w surround system that works fine with my tv but as I want to move all my audio visual gear up to HD level (one of the reasons I bought the ps3, i.e. blu ray player), I want to have the sound to go with the excellent picture quality. I think I need an optical cable to connect the two but how will the picture work, i.e. is it routed through the DAV550 or sent straight to the tv via HDMI? The online manuals with the PS3 are useless.

    Advice appreciated.

The PS3 has an optical connection for sound. I imagine it'd just be a case of hooking the sound via the optical, then go into your display settings and that gives you the option where you want the sound from, i've seen the optical option there.

I checked up on the DAV 550 and it has one optical in connector so should be grand to connect up with PS3.
