Is it just me or does it irritate anyone else on how vendors manipulate their prices using excessive postage charges? I bought a small-ish camera case for £7.50 from the UK and had to pay £7.99 postage! It's ok as I still think the case was worth the £15 - but I just wish they would be more honest about it... I just bought some tiny simple pieces of metal (little tools) for £2 and had to pay £3 postage - for something so small you could put a dozen in a standard envelope and throw a 32p stamp on it no problem!

Also the Chinese sellers often hike up the prices and wack insurance etc on there.

Why don't eBay stop this and have more honest pricing?

If you don't look at the total price before you bid... As I recall ebay charges on the cost of item only for fees as well for their cut. Many companies will also only offer refund on the price of item only (and hence exclude the freight cost where they dump most of the cost) if you are unhappy with the item etc.

Total cost is the same either way and the buyer can always claim work load for posting it (at a $1000 an hour rate or what ever to get the price) if you wan't to go to such details. In short it's practice and as everything else you have the power to shop somewhere else if you want to, but if you are not ready to vote with your money...

I've been using ebay for buying and selling for a while now. Postage has always been an issue. In a lot of case's there are honest sellers who will only charge the going rate for postage as it would cost them with no extra hikes.
I always ask for a postage quote before I bid, that way i have proof if the seller tries to up the price.
On saying that, Ebay also ask for your opinion when you leave feedback on how you found the postage rate, description of goods, communication from seller etc.
If you have not left feedback and fell strongly about it, raise it as an issue against the seller, I did with a motherbaord I bought and recieved a refund of 20 dollars off the price.

I was meant to write up something for a stickie a while ago and forgot all about it. Cloud was a mod at the time and said it would be stickied if I did.

If the mods will sticky it I will write it up- detailing why it is in your interest to specifically seek people charging huge postage. This issue comes up all the time and has been explained many times.
It's ok as I still think the case was worth the £15 - but I just wish they would be more honest about it.
if they were more honest it would have cost YOU more, and they would have had the same profit, the extra money would have gone direct to ebay.
