Quick ceist for any agency or HR staff who are browsing....

    A quick background for you....
Im hoping to relocate from my current place of work to another part of the country. I saw a job advertised with an agency for a large multi-national opening an office in the area that Im hoping to move, with similar roles to my current one. Ive applied through an agency but its been over a month since my initial application and the response from the agency has been that "they are hiring a number of staff and scheduling interviews can take time".....obviously given that this is a relocation Im anxious to get this sorted either way. Would it be improper to apply directly again to the company to bypass the agency as I dont feel Im getting sufficient feedback from them??

    Cheers

Not HR or Agency. In my experiences, Agencies won't get back to you if there don't think you'll get a role, or they have stronger candidates. Mind you theres a chance that all the jobs are going through the agency and you'll get nowhere applying direct and the agency will get peeved.

in ireland, it usally takes ages to the agencies to get back to you. If you are in hurry, just ring them what's going on and kick their asses. I have it from my experience. After initial emali, they didn't get back to me 3 long weeks until I phoned them. The lady told she was just about to call right then. Hahaha :-) .

And if you know which company has the opening, just apply directly. The will see you are really enthusiastic about the position and you will save them horendous money they would have to give to the agency.

Yes. That is beyond the fact some companies will throw out a CV if it comes from more then one location/has applied before but turned down. Also keep in mind that agencies can be, shall we say, liberal with the truth of availability of positions.

As someone said, it could be risky to apply directly to the company in case all the applications are being processed by the agency. So why not ring the actual company anonymously and just say something along the lines of "I'm interested in the x vacancy, who can I send my CV to in there?" If she gives you a name, well and good, if she says it's all being dealt with by an agency, then you've done all you can do.

just for the record (NB I am a recruiment company) I have a close relationship with my clients, if they saw someone aplly directly after me sending them in, they would not interview them due to their dishonesty (I cover this at candidate meeting).

Also, just once in a while, IT IS the actual company delaying for various reasons without telling the agency the TRUTH - shock horror. For example they may offer the role and not tell the agency because the candidate the agency represents is going to get an offer if candidate A refuses. Or it can be as simple as the Hiring Manager is very busy and a nightmare to tie down for interview times.....

    Quick update for ye,

I mailed the recruitment company again to ask for an update on the status of my application.

The Agency Rep sent me back this reply....bearing in mind this is a startup operation of a large multi-national in a new base, is this a believable response??

we are waiting for interviews for a number of candidates and are expecting interview dates shortly. With the volume of recruitment, some of the roles have gone into a holding pattern until the appropriate managers are available

Cheers by the way for all the reponses and advice.
