Well with the auld 30th looming next monday the missus decided she'd be kind enough to buy me a PS3 and let me play with it early. I picked one up in HMV where I got the 60GB machine, Motorstorm, Resistance and Spiderman 3 Blu-Ray for €496.

So far I'm quite impressed with the gaming aspect of the machine. Motorstorm looks fantastic and I'm sure I'll waste a good bit of time on it. I must pick up another controller for when people call over.
I've not had much of a chance to play Resistance, but it looks impressive at least.

I'm not overly impressed with the quality of the Blu-Ray drive but is SpiderMan 3 supposed to be a good quality disc? Do I need to tweak the settings on the PS3? I have it connected via HDMI and it's outputting to my LCD at 720p. I'm about 6-9 feet back from the screen.

So my BIG question to you guys is.......... what do I need to do now to enrich my PS3 experiance? I'm currently downloading the GT: HD demo and after that I'm not to sure what I should be doing next. I don't get lots of time to play games so the two that I have now will be sufficient for a while to come.

    Many thanks.

Sell it for a 360 :p (throws on flame repellent suit)

I never had a post asking about the PS3 Vs the 360 and I never mentioned it in the post above. I did consider getting a 360 and I'm well aware it has the better choice of games and the better online setup but I ruled it out and am happy that the PS3 is the right choice for me.

Set yourself up with an American PSN account. There's about 30 or so demos available now, so just download them all and you'll have plenty to try and see what you like. I'd make the demos of Ratchet & Clank and Heavenly Sword top priorities.

If you have a Mastercard, pick up Everyday Shooter from the American PSN store. it's well worth the $10 asking price. Aswell as that, go to the Euro store and pick up Loco Roco and Super Stardust HD. Again, both cost next to nothing but they're brilliant games.

That should keep you going for a long while. Not sure about your Blu Ray question, I'm more interested in the console as a games machine.

I'm guessing you go to create another user from the toolbar and select the US as your country instead of Ireland.

I wouldnt go ownloading EVERY demo! theres probably about 30gb of material there, so your monthly limit is probably well and throughly broken! In my opinon the best demos are Colin McCrae: dirt, stuntman ignition and gran turismo. Supprisingly enough i dont normally like car games! Avoid Gundham warriors or whatever its called, its useless!

Not everyone has a monthly limit thought :).

I'd highly recommend loco roco as well. Just stay away from the awful version of lemmings on the PSN.

LocoRoco is pretty funky alright. I have it on the PSP so I'll pass on getting it for the PS3. I'll also pass on Lemmings, thanks for the warning!

It's plays completely differently to the PSP game a is a different game just with the same look so it's definitely worth a download especially at the price it's at.

I suggest if your into footie games get fifa 08..I know pes 08 is just around the corner but tbh fifa is an amazing game and has improved so much more than pes lately..Think it will be hard for pes to beat fifa as fifa's looks and gameplay is amazing..

How does retail version of FIFA 08 compare gameplay wise to the demo on the PSN?

I know I shouldn't be saying this but I have a friend that works for Konami and he says that all the guys in EA are asking for Konami to send over copies of PES 2008 because they like it better than the new Fifa (most of the games companies do these kinds of trades between employees, we give you review copies of your games early, we send you ours). Make of that what you will.

ohh well we should see what it's like in 2 weeks and then we will really know which game has improved the most..

Well I don't know about PES yet, but FIFA 2008 is a very good game. Surely regardless of how good the games are though, everyone on EA would want to play Konami's game and vice versa, they've played their own version to death after all and it's wise to see what the competition have.

Well these guys aren't the developers, just the EA and Konami europe guys so they just handle marketing and shipping. The EA guys have been saying they like PES 2008 but my mate also tells me the EA guys are big PES fanboys anyway :)

pes 08 will be well better!! and the fact that official kits are under way at pesgaming will enrich the experiance... like all fifa games the novelty will were off in a month.. while pes on ps2 i'm still playing atm

pes 08 will be well better!!

I dunno. Looks like PES2008 is gonna have plenty of slowdown, that makes it practically unplayable for me.

The creator admits it in this article.

Ehh maybe now's a good time for me to point out that I ain't too keen on sports games. The last football game I had was on the original playstation and even that was rarely played!

i see what you mean!! but still if this is not rectified in time.. it will still be better then play with over exagerated linier fifa imo..

Seabass: Of course. To be honest I don't think the slow-down is that bad compared to the 360 and as I said, we don't create just a PS3 game, we created both together. But when we compared them directly we were shocked because the PS3 has a little bit more slowdown and we don't really know why.

    anyone notice the contridicting lol?
