Oh yeah! This was essential viewing when I was a youngster. I never realised how badly dubbed it was though. Actually, when I was a kid I didn't realise it was dubbed at all

Ooh I loved Heidi! And Annie!

    Peter :) (I think)

Yeah, it was Peter. He got jealous of Heidi's friendship with Klara so he pushed Klara out of her wheelchair, which rolled down the hill and smashed into pieces. But Klara, instead of lying there, got up and WALKED!!!

So the motto is: Swiss mountain air and goat's milk will help you walk again.

    .

    :D

That's mad Dudess; I was originally going to say that my only memory of Heidi was the tune, and that Peter pushed a wheelchair down the hill..

The best version of Heidi was on Story Teller:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Story_teller

Anyone collect that? It was ace!

That Heidi programe was just weird, and kind of scared me a bit as a kid.

Too many bearded weirdo's roaming around the mountains chatting to a little girl (shudder!) if I remember

But it was the late '70s - before paedophiles existed! ;)

Good old goat Peter! i forgot about Frau rottermeir. I remember Heidis' aunt Olivia I think her name was. Never realised it was dubbed as a kid either! I got a pet goat in the early 80's (part of a Heidi obsession as a kid - sad i know) she lived for 20 years much to the dismay of my parents!

Heidi was the cause of a nasty ear infection when I was a kid. I borrowed it as a hardback book from the library. One morning when I was in bed, I reached up to the locker and accidentally dropped the book onto the side of my head. The corner landed slam dunk right into my ear and resulted in a nasty glue ear :)

I loved the theme tune. And watching it made me want to visit Switzerland, though the nearest I got to it was ski-ing into the border from Livigno! Weren't the lead parts played by English girls?

OMG what a blast from the past. I LOVED Heidi although could never understand why the movement of her lips never matched her speech. Until dubbing was explained to me that is;)

Just remembered this now. When I was in Germany years ago, one of us (don't ask me how it came up!) said something about Heidi, and when we hummed the tune, the Germans looked puzzled and sang a different theme. Perhaps we got a different theme as well as subtitles? Or perhaps those crazy Germans were making fun of us.

Why? Heidi was a classic in Germany.

I was a child when it was on air, I always cried when poor Heidi was on the train to Frankfurt and the alps were disappearing in the back window :(

I believe the girl who played Clara is a famous actress in Germany now but can't recall her name. Looked it up on the internet.

Yes - horrible woman. Aptly named.

There were 26 episodes of this. RTE showed it in 1981.

Typical, I replied to a post from yesteryear

Maybe I was too thrilled about myself outing as a Heidi admirer :D

Thats right, although British tv (UTV) I think repeated it a few months later.

Same thing happened with a number of other show RTE aired at the time. Hucklebury Finn, re shown a few months later by UTV and another show about a young boy's adventures in Greece which was dubbed into English. (Thing it was called Niko or something.) Was also re aired on UTV several months later.
