    took this a while back, just wondering what i could have done better/different in this shot, would details of the ship be better than the silloutte?

    If you have the raw file there huge potential. Even if not a quick tweaking in PS would work wonders.

    the largest problem this image faces is that you have exposed for the sunset but the foreground subject is much much darker and has been underexposed as a result. as another poster has pointed out, if you have a the raw file you could mask off the sunset and do some exposure adjustments on the foreground subject to balance the difference between the two.

    something else you might want to try is taking two photos. one exposed for the suset the other exposed for the ship, then combine on photoshop. or if you want to do it the 'traditional' way, a neutral density graduated filter would allow you to expose for subject and the sky would still be useable.

    or as the other poster pointed out, you could throw it in the bin (read: spend more time thinking about the image and taking the photos right rather than trying to fix them)
