I have two boxes running off the same dish , both working fine , however one is PACE ( DS403N Model number ) The other is an older model Thompson (DSI4212C) . my question is why would the signal strenght be different on the boxes is it just to do with age and make ? or is there something I could to do to correct this ? . the Pace is at 75% and the Thompson is at 35% . As I said all channels working fine on both .

Is the cable run to the Thompson longer than that to the Pace?

Some box's tuners are more or less sensitive than others. More importantly, how is the box with lower signal performing? Any digital drop-outs or break-up?

To satisfy curiosity, have you tried swapping the connections at the LNB to see what the result is?

One maybe using either inferior cabling or over a longer distance than the other.

It's the signal quality that's most important.

Must be just down to the box software and how it perceives the signal level...

I recall the old Panasonics used to show lower signal strength too than the Pace's from the same era. Regardless though, the Pannies were the best.

If your Thomson is working OK, you should be OK. What's your Signal Quality like?

Thanks again byte the signal on both boxes is over 60%

Even boxes of the exact same make and model show widely different signal strengths. Just ignore it. It's only a rough indication of whether you've got a signal. All that matters is that signal "quality" should be as high as possible (but 40% is usually good enough for reliable reception all but the very worst weather).

i had an old pace 2200 got a ds430 and signal strength went from 50 to 90 % signal quality stayed pretty much the same i guess its just the sensitivity of the tuner.

On the above set up the old thompson box has channel 4 on the epg but the pace dose not , it dose however have the other channel 4 channels , I tried a re-scan but no luck , any ideas on how to get channel 4 , just in case it goes FTA in the next few months thanks Lads

I'm not sure how C4 is on the other box, unless there's a UK card in it. But there will be no way of forcing C4 onto 104 by itself. If or when C4 go FTA, they'll probably get placed on EPG anyway, so no need to worry.
