Good groomer for westie?

    Hi
My Jack has been to a few groomers in his 2 years and I find (like hairdressers sometimes!) they don't listen to what you want - how you want your dog to look.

I like the natural look on a westie ie lovely bushy tail not cut to look like a carrot, and another groomer kept insisting on cutting a fringe into the hair at eye level - she did the same to my friend's yorkie.

I live in Bray but will travel to get a good groomer who listens (I've even brought pics sometimes!!).

Dogsbody in Terenure has been recommended to me - anyone use them?
    Thanks!
    G

Susan O' Sullivan is the groomer in dogsbody she is one of the four fully qualified dog groomers in Ireland. She will do a good job for Jack.

I'm a dog groomer in Limerick and i understand the kind of look you are looking for. I like the westie to have a full length skirt, round head and thick tail. :) I don't like the shaved look where the tail is very thin.

    Hi again
I had to bump this in the hopes that someone might have more suggestions for me. Susan O'Sullivan is not taking on any new clients and can't even give her own clients appointments till January 08! She recommended another groomer to me and when I rang they weren't taking new clients either....

Obviously the really good ones have clients for life but I'm still left with a hairy furball. I dont have this problem finding a good hairdresser for myself!

    Any help anyone???

    Hi,

I bring both of my Westies to the Groomers in Dun Laoire. The are above the Vets (Treanors) on Patrick street. Would definitely recommend them as I have never had an issue with them!

We go for an all over shave as opposed to the classic Westie cut and we get exactly what we request.

and as someone who's seen the results of her grooming on several dogs owned by people I know - I'd recommend her too ;) my girls aren't the type that require grooming in the same sense as a westie would (they're labs) so they just get washed & alot of their shedding coat removed in the shedding season :D the groomer I bring them to is great for them (under Argyle & Bainbridge in Stillorgan) don't know about westie do's with her though

    Thanks everyone :)
Love to try Doggy Dazzlers but it'd mean taking a day off work to travel with himself from Bray and wait till he's ready...can't do at the moment:(

Will check out the Dun Laoire one - has anyone ever used the mobile dog groomers? Are they fully trained (City & Guilds etc) or the groomer in Brayvet?

Tabitharose - what is the name of your groomers please?

    Cheers
    G

you ring Argyle & Bainbridge in Stillorgan & just ask for the groomer - the number is 2788046 - can't remember the girl's name sorry

as far as mobile groomers go I have rung & asked but found the prices very high compared to what I pay now so have never used them ;)

Well, I had to bite the bullet and go for the mobile groomers - everywhere I rang wasnt taking on new clients, the one in Stillorgan, in Dun Laoire and loads more I rang from the golden pages.
I have a day off coming up and that's why I was stuck to a particular date, they were available so I'm going to chance it. It's actually the same price as the one I've used the last two times and I had to drop him off wait around and pick him up. And there was usually 2 or 3 other dogs on the go at the same time with just one groomer.

One place I rang you had to leave him in at 9.30am and pick him up in the evening!! That would be really stressful for my fella.

Wish me luck - I hope I've done the right thing!

    Hi,

I used a mobile groomer, I know it costs a little more but it's well worth it. my dog didn't have to wait in a salon cage all day and he was washed and cut within an hour so I could plan my day around the groom and not the groom around the day!! They were called Aussie Pet Mobile and were really professional, I was extremely happy wth the job they did. Also does anyone know anything about the furminator? They recommended it for my dog because he sheds loads?!

There is a lady in Clondalkin (she's in the Golden Pages) who specialises in grooming Westies. She's fantastic - always cuts them to the classic "Westie" cut.

I used Doggie Style mobile groomers twice since I first posted this question - and they're excellent!

Arrived on time, done in an hour or so to my specifications (not the classic westie style) and the neighbours had a good giggle at the name on the van parked outside my house.

    Recommend them!

I groom dogs in Blackrock, one of the Advanced City and Guilds Qualified groomers, I trained in London and trained Suzanne O'Sullivan of Dogsbody, if you want to call me please do on 01 2103545, www.thegroomingpad.com
Dont worry, I am not one to skin westies, if you want to show your dog, you need to get it hand stripped,
    take care
