    .....compression shorts.

    http://www.buy4now.ie/elverys/aspx/productdetail.aspx?pid=1764&loc=P&catid=25.20

what are they for? are they just there so that your package doesnt hang out?

Now im being dead serious when i say this. They prevent your ball sack from being twisted and getting ripped. I kid you not!

Are you speaking from experience? Have you got yourself into a hairy situation and they saved your short and curlys:D

I've always thought a tight pair of briefs would be enough to save your mangina. I'd think those things would sweat the rocks off you and could actually be detrimental.

I still have voices in the back of my head when going to rucks whether that will happen or a Buck Shelford incident very scary!

Yeah no one at my school wore cups or anything like that. Thinking back was mighty lucky

so seeing as I will be playing as a back, will I need them or not? i could just wear ticht jocks; 30 uro is a lot to pay for a poor young fella like me

Up to yourself really. There really meant for all players as you never now what will happen in a tackle ruck or maul you know

I'd rather pay €30 than have my nut sack ripped open by some unfortunate rucking incident.

But that's just me :D Gotta ensure the ability to propagate in the future!

lol, took a full minute or two to sink in! I had to double check it wasn't Hagar.

    Very good....

Heh, could have done with those myself back in the day. Many a second row squeezed my nads in the scrum (tighthead prop) and not in an affectionate way !

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Would they really be that necessary, I wouldn't imagine they could be that much good for the purpose they're intended and still be within the laws.

Maybe if they were made from that new flubber like stuff I saw on Sky News.

Given the fact I've a bit of a history of bolecular difficulties I may have to give in and buy a pair. Would they be essential to a scrum half or would I get away with a toight pair of cacks?

its absolutely nothing to do with testicles.the compresion allows a person to run faster and prevents muscle strains.why do you think sprinters wear an all over version!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭EdgarAllenPoo

To keep their dangly bits from dangling and stop female runners giving themselves black eyes (mind you looking at most female runners I'd say that last ones rare).

Would they be the sort of garment you'd nearly have to peel off after a match and on a similar subject, are those hot/cold base layer things any use?

Would you not stay cooler by not wearing an extra layer?

I have had a pair for about a year now. Use them for running and rugby.

They are definately worth the money. When I am running the whole area feels more "secure". They also eliminate any rubbing that may arise from friction as you run.

If you do a lot of running or rugby you should get a pair...

They don't allow you to run faster, they ... but they do help to prevent muscle strains and potential pain caused by swinging bollox.

A friend of mine who played tighthead in school said you should wear a cup, for any position. Personally I just don't think I'll be doing that.

compression clothing.....the CORRECT compression clothign and not just lycra running shorts, are used by many codes of sports to aid muscle recovery.

My dad works with a guy who plays for the Emerald Warriors and apparently they all went out (not together) and bought jock straps after a match in which one of them had their sack shredded by someones studs.

    These things are essential!!
Have the same pair as the pic and never go training or matches without them, I find them more important than a gumshield!
    Get a pair!

Extremely tight fitting denim tops increase the ability to lift when benching.

Perhaps the same principal does apply to the thighs and lower back.

I know I was suffering from lower back / core pains before and a tight waste belt thingy helped sort this out. Wering it gave great support and a feeling of increased strength, perhaps if tested doing an excercise on a machin may be interesting.

Exactly, which is why they are called compression shorts and not just tight lycra shorts.

I suffered from a recurring groin problem when running and these things worked a treat, expecially during colder training times. They keep your muscles warm and as previously mentioned, they stop the ol' twig and berries smacking around the place.
