Connecting Two computers together using Cross wire cable

What settings do I need to change in order to connect two computers together using a cross wire cable.

best bet is to assign each an IP address on the same subnet eg comp1 10.0.0.1 & comp2 10.0.0.2. then if you have shared folders you can map them on each machine or from the run commmand \\10.0.0.2 to connect to comp2 from comp1 etc

How do i create a shared folder ?

I had shared folders before in My Computer , but they were removed by accident when i was trying to set up another network/

Right click on a folder and choose sharing.

I have In "My Computer"

1.John Documents
2.Mary Documents

3. Documents ( but this wont let me share it as it refuses me permission to do so)

The shared Documents which was on the computer originally is now gone because of some setting i changed a while back
In the My computer screen it doesnt give me the option of creating a file.

I could right click and get all the files in Johns Documents , but this would give the other user access to my files and i dont want this.

In the Johns Documents i can create a folder , but i cant share this folder as it a sub folder within Johns Documents which isnt shared.

Then just share the sub folder on it's own, rather than John's documents.

what happens when i shared the sub folder is that the all of Johns Documents winds up being shared and the other user can acess all of them.
