I am just sick of my boss DS-1. I am thinking about purchasing one of these. I hear the russian model is not illegal over here too?!

    So are they any good?

It's entirely a matter of taste. But the Big Muff is held in high regard by many, especially the Russian one.

I have a USA Big Muff. They produce a fantastic tone, very rich, but they are not the most versatile distortion pedal in the world. Listen to some audio examples somewhere to get an idea of what they sound like and make sure it will fit your style. E.g. Siamese Dream by the Smashing Pumpkins.

I've used and abused mine for around six years and it still works perfectly so no problems there.

i got one a while back and i love it.

musician didnt have the russian one as they have a saftey issue.
as a result the american one is going a bit cheaper now.

its a totally different sound than a ds-1.

as far as being worth it goes, it's a cheap pedal with great sound so yeah, its' worth it.

I've an old Russian one I got in Musicmaker nigh on 6 years ago. Love the sound out of it but very rarely use it because it doesn't have a plug so has to go on battery alone.

I was thinking of getting one of those 9v battery socket > daisy chain adaptors but couldn't find one and I don't really want to go lopping extra wires in for a plug.

What's this safety issue you mention?

Yeah, is that the socket thats like a headphone jack?! weird........i had to get an adaptor off the net for it, cost about €15 off www.247guitar.ie so the adaptor isint too expensive

I got a Big Muff a few months ago and marvelled at the vintage tone it produces. I have a DS2 which I use quite a bit but it produces a very "artificial" tone, for want of a better word.

The bonus with the muff is that you get to tell people you have a Big Muff, my mates think its hilarious....

Plus you get a nice big box with your Russian Big Muff

Seriously though, it's a nice wooden display thingy ;)

    great door stop.

had one. sold it. too much gain, too little clarity

it's too nasty and buzzsawy for my taste

i love mudhoney and all that, but that pedal doesn't agree with donkey
