Hi - I am relocating to Ireland next year and want to bring my 06 Polo Gti with me. I have read the info on gaining exemption from the VRT, but can I also gain exemption on VAT?

Are there many GTi's in Ireland - mine is the 1.8T version...

Not many Polo GTIs in Ireland, no. If you have owned the car for over 6 months and have lived outside the state for over a year you should be able to bring the car in almost for free. You might have to pay 50 euros or so.

You won't have to pay VAT. You've already paid it in the EU so you won't have to again- You would have to if you were importing a car from japan, for example.

Polo GTi will be a rare car here....

If the car os less than 6 months old it's subject to VAT IIRC.

I had a 00 GTI (6n2). Immense fun but I had to move to something I could tow with. At the time I had mine, I reckoned there were a 12-15 in the country tops.
