I can't think of an equivalent to ms paint. I could list you vector and bitmap applications for macs that are better, than ms paint, ie more useful. (none as fun though!)

I recommend VLC for playing divx files, I assume you mean playing divx?!

Nice is a cool Media player that looks nicer than VLC. I'm unaware if it works with OS 9 but maybe it'll help.

As for painting applications, I'm unsure.

You could always upgrade it to OS X. Might need some more RAM but that's not too expensive nowadays - 512 MB is about 50 quid. the iMacs used SDRAM.

PM me if you need any help.

Im with Zen on this one - i think unless you fancy the hassle trying to source software for the system all the time I reckon you would better off just upgrading.

[whisper] when Leopard (the newest OS) comes out at the end of the month you might just find people willing to part with their Tiger discs at a discount [/whisper]

From the apple menu select the System Profiler and post what it says about the processor and number of RAM slots. Also does it have a firewire socket ? I've upgraded a couple of these recently - G3 300 MHz - and both used PC100 DIMMS. The iMac G4 - angle poise LCD version - used laptop style SODIMMS.

    Dadabing !!
User manuals in .pdf format on the rhs of page.

Have you got a mac already that came with install discs ? I might have a mate with a spare set of Tiger discs. I'll PM you his details.

Your iMac only has USB 1.1 sockets so they're very slow. When you plug a drive into a mac it's scanned by the OS to determine file sizes and other info I think. If there's a lot of files on it it may take some time. I think you can click stop somewhere - it's been a while since I've used OS9 sorry.

AFAIK it can take up to 512 MB - 2 x 256 - which it may well need in order to make up for lack of horsepower.

If you do the Tiger installer will tell before it lets you continue.
