I know a lot of the guys on the Dublin poker scene , however my question is to ALL poker players who are NOT professionals. The nature of Poker tournys/cash games is that it is very time consuming and quite often if you are a good player you will spend a lot of time 'NOT' sleeping. As Poker has mushroomed in recent years there must be 100s of you going around the country in various states of sleep depravation and if you are not a pro this MUST be effecting your home and working life. I play mostly weekends but I'm astonished the amount of guys who play a lot during the week....

    So my Questions are :

Has playing poker effected your quality or life?
How do you combat the sleep depravation?

And so ends my quarterly boardsposting rush.....I'll be back on in a few more weeks or more to comment, pester, annoy (could be a diff alias....this one has served it's purpose) :-)

    1. I was a fat lazy balding fecker before I started playing poker, so not much has changed. It has affected my perception of money a lot though.
    2. I sleep a lot at weekends. I play a lot less during the week now than I used to, it is mostly weekends now.

Next time get an alias that is harder to guess too.

    I'd suggest :

    BabyFacedAssasin
    4VersusForest
    NoAmbition
    SmallFishBigPond

or something along those lines ;)

I don't like to be totally anonymous otherwise I'd hardly annoy...which is 1/3 of my purpose for a virtual existence.

Also I didn't think this name up, one of my (Non existant:D) brothers did. I like it though...
I will think up my own again next time.

    See ya later rockstar!

I spend Mondays and Tuesdays sleeping\recovering from weekend poker, hence my astonishment at the nightwalkers on here.

1- I have slightly more money that i would if i didn't play. Poker's just given me another excuse to be an unsociable git when i should be spending time with my friends and attractive members of the opposite sex.

2- I can function on very little sleep, but try not to. Mostly i only play poker if i'm in a position to get at leat 6 hours sleep before i have to do anything like go to work the following day.

I have a job at the moment and find it very hard to play poker too. When my girlfriend lived in another country I could just about manage to integrate poker and work (you can get through one day on 2 hours sleep just about OK as long as you can catch up the next evening and just crash out). Now that she's over here and moved in with me it will be basically impossible for me to balance work, home life, poker, and everything else. Something will be losing out, and for now it's going to have to be poker. Fortunately the girl doesn't mind poker; she thinks it's kind of cool. It remains to be seen how cool she thinks it is when she wakes up on a Saturday morning and I'm still not there because I've gone to the Jackpot after the SE closed

1: I've lost all value of money which isn't good since i'm a student...

    2: Student with a 3 day week (mon-wed) - so get about 10hrs sleep a day(thurs - sunday) - play all nite/sleep all day...

    1. A small bit, my girlfriend isn't a huge fan of me playing poker but I'm sure she'd find something else to complain about if it wasn't that.

    2. I'm in college and only play poker at the weekends. I'd be too tired to play after college and playing tired really decreases my performance. I don't get an awful lot of hands in because of this but it's better then missing all my 9 o'clock lectures and being too tired to make any money anyway.

When I was working I frequently fell alseep at my desk during work-(financial istit)-I would recover enough to sleep til 10 that night when I got home then repeat and rinse.I was sent home once for falling asleep at a staff meeting. On one memerable occasion the left side my face started twitching/went numb in a taxi on the way to work from the se.I gave it up soon after.I do see ppl who work and play LITERALLY everyday and it does boogle the mind.

    1: Yes, quite positively too.
    2: I've adapted.

I didn't go to any last year (2nd year) and had to study for a month solid to get through the exams, only passed one by compensation. I've decided I should probably try a little harder to get up on time this year.
