18 under par - what's the closet a pro has come to this?

Or has this ever been done?

I'm surprised no company has put up a huge prize for any player that shoots 18 under par at a sanctioned tour event.

surely something like €50m would be appropriate?

    Any comments??

No ones even come close to it, officially.
Duval's had a 59, so has Anika Sorenstam. The most this could be is -14, but it's more than likely -12 or -13.

And €50m is a ridiculous amount to put up!!

THe closest anybody has ever come was 59, that was done by three players Al Geiberger, Chip Beck and David Duval! Thats in the history of tournament Golf so I think 18under is about as possible as someone running the 100m in under 5 seconds :D Its just not gonna happen!

still - there has to be a company out there willing to put up serious cash for it.

Thinking about it - €100m would be more like it!

They could put up €100 billion, it wouldn't matter.
No one is ever going to do it.

Some guy in the U.S shot a 59 last week as far as i know no one has shot less than that number.

I know a bloke who did 18 under in P&P once.

14 birdies and 4 hole in ones I think was

That would be 22 under, are you making that story up?

Maruyama had a 58 in US Open qualifying - 11 birdies and an eagle on a par 71 course.
Duval's 59 was pretty special to say the least...
To think that someday someone would scrape 5 shots off these, well, maybe offer $500bn :p

Tiger has shot 54 on a par 72 in practice but i suppose so have many others.

I doubt that really... I've read that Tiger shot a 59 at his home course but haven't heard of anything lower.

Lads name is John Dennis and plays for C.Y.M.C./L.C

I am sure if you give them a call they will tell you.

    It was ina comp also.

    It made the papers aswell.

It isnt beyond the bounds of possibility that someone could shoot a 54.
    Highly unlikely but not impossible.

Yeah not impossible but 'practically impossible' I'd say.
Like on your regular par 72 course, you are needing something like an eagle on each of the 4 par 5's and birdies on 10 out of the other 14 holes.
Even let a guy have 2 holes in one in a round.... or an albatross or two lol... still the rest of the round would have to be magic.

When you read about Duval's effort, where he was putting for birdie or eagle on 17 greens (and from close in mostly), you'd find it hard to imagine knocking 5 shots off

Look, I know if Tiger went out at somewhere like Townley Hall or Cabra Castle then 18 under would be possible - but I am talking a sanctioned event.

"Duval's 11 birdies and one eagle measured a combined 52 feet."

A truly staggering display of iron-play. Speechless.

I've shot 18 under - on online crazy golf.

Come to think about it that's a lie too.

Shooting 18 under would be something special but you'd need some restrictions. It would be easier to shoot 18 under on a par three course where none of the holes are over 150 yards so it would have to be on a tour event.

It just ain't gonna happen, breaking 60 is as good as it gets...

Was playing with a mate in Portugal (Riba No.2) a couple of weeks ago and he shot a 63, 10 birdies and 1 bogey, I was absolutely dumbfounded, never played with anybody who has shot under par before and then this!!!
He was awesome though, couldn't miss a putt.
It was a delight for me to witness it, doubt I ever will again...

A guy called Homero Blancas shot a 55 in a US college tournament back in the 50's or 60's.
He went on to play on the PGA Tour. Don't think the score is officially recognised as the record anymore though.

Interesting.... just looked it up on wiki
Blancas shot a record-setting round of 55 (27-28) in a college tournament, which stands as the lowest round in the history of competitive golf. His 13 birdies and an eagle on a par-70 course....

Still 3 more to knock off that round ;)
An indication would be - what's the lowest 9-hole score on the tour(s)?
Even Tigers best is 28(-7) and he followed that up with 35(level)

Duvals round is still the King imo... has it all (except it wasn't a major)
It was on a Sunday, It was to win!, Immaculate iron play, An eagle on the last... etc.

That pitch and putt score is true. I know the lad who scored it and Wigertoods on these forums is a clubmate of his. A remarkable feat but if there was a pitch and putt course where it could be done then CYMC would be the place to expect it.
