Caller ID Issue

    Hi,

    Hoping someone can help me.
I am having Caller id problems with blueface using an NEC PABX system
The issue is that if someone calls from say 087 1234567 the called ID on the phone (a NEC IP2AT) displays 08712345 -234567.
The called id method on the router is set to ETSI FSK with PR(UK).

If I take the phones and plug them into a regular network (not VOIP) then the phones do display the caller id correctly.

    Can anyone help?

eircom don't use the same caller ID protocol as a BT landline in the UK.

Rather, they use the same system as France Télécom and Deutsche Telekom and quite a few other telcos in Europe.
It's also an ETSI FSK setup, but it's not "PR UK" (polarity reversal). It should be ring pulse alerting or first ring alerting or something along those lines.. pick a DE or FR option anyway!

The actual exchange equipment used in Ireland isn't at all the same as the UK, it's largely identical to France and tends to follow french protocols over the line interface for things like caller ID, dial tones, ringing voltages etc etc.. When Telecom Eireann rolled out digital equipment, it was largely sourced from Alcatel and French standards were implemented across the network as at that time France was one of the only places to have gone heavily digital. Ireland was actually cutting edge in terms of telecommunications back then! eircom's progress since privatisation has been shameful!

So, set your phone to one of those countries (but not Scandinavia / Netherlands where a different system again is used)

Often setting the phone to US caller ID will work quite well too on an Irish line. The protocol is VERY similar.
