For you average online poker tournanment i have two questions about tournanment top ups

Q1. When should you take one.
    Q2. When should you not.

I find myself taking a tournanment top up in 98% of the tournanments i play regardless of my chip stack. It seems like i could be saving myself alot extra cash if i didnt.

    What are peoples taughts?

i think if the top up is less than 20% of your stack u should not get it.
dont where i heard this btw or if its correct but this is what i do.

I think the general rule of thumb is that If you have an average chip stack when others have topped up probably no need. On the other hand you will probably get people who say you should top up anyway. Personally I go with the above

Do you think it is good value for money if it is over 20%

If your increase in equity < the top up amount you shouldnt.

In a flat payout structure, there are times where I havent topped up, eg turbo sats on stars. Say there are 90 players left and 30 tickets. You can have 8x+ the average during these breaks, eg, avg 4k, your stack 32k, top up amount 1.5k which represents 1/20 of the maximum prize.

However, i think in regular rebuy, i think you should always top up. You are usually far, far away from where the real money comes from. As long as you have an edge, topping up cost <= increase in equity in the tournament. The top up amound could represent 1/20000 the maximum prize.

You should definitely top up in almost all circumstances, except where your chip stack is way, WAY more than average. It's almost always a good investment.
