Well, my dad just got his 24 inch all-in-one imac yesterday basically and when it was all set up and such - he couldn't open any of the folders, shortcuts and most importantly the HD .. (can't install any programs through CDs either)

    - we tried restarting (nothing)
    - we tried reinstalling through the Mac OS X disks (nothing)
    - we compared the preferences and such with the macbook (nothing rly)

:/ Anyone got any ideas on this? lol we might just go to an apple store and see what is up but dunno
( Oh and I am aware lepoard is coming out this month so don't question why my dad bought an imac now.. Lol )

What happens when you power up? Just a desktop and you are not able to do anything with it?

Have you tried booting from the install discs? Or running Disc Util? (sorry I dont know how mac-au-fait you are, so if you dont know what im on about just ask)

If you go to the Apple symbol on the top left and click on it, then click on "About this Mac", what is it teling you? Under the Apple icon and Mac OS X, what version does it say and what start up disc?

This is one of two things.
    1) Something really really strange is happening
    2) The user is doing something really really stupid.

To be safe, I'll opt for 1.

Basically the mouse doesn't respond to opening the shortcuts on the desktops or the folder files.. You can open them using the keyboard (but then you are losing the whole mouse experience..)

Well, basically as I said above - it looks fine except for the fact you cannot open any of the files or shortcuts on the desktop with the mouse.

The version is 10.4 10 - disk is the same.

Oh and it is not a defected mouse.. since my dad tried using his old mac pro mouse and same thing happened.

A fiver says someone was fiddling about with the mouse preferences and made the double click speed impossibly quick - had this loads of times with PC users - bless !

I assume that you are able to click on the icons on your dock, yes?

If you go back to About This Mac, it should tell you what USB devices you have connected; is it registering your Mouse/keyboard as being connected to same and what devices are on the list as being active?
