connected Wii up to my 32" lcd tv and as to be expected the picture over the bundled composite cable is crap. My component connections are taken up by my 360. I intend buying a new amp with composite switch in the next few weeks but in the meantime was just wondering if its worth getting the RGB connection?

Playing on scart after playing on composite is like playing a brand new console. Scart will improve the image quality immensely and isn't really noticably worse than component. Composite is an absolute joke when I got my first scart cable for a console I spent the day being amazed at the quality of the visuals and went back into town the next day to buy scart cables for the rest of my consoles.

Doesn't the Wii come with a scart connector?

No, it comes with a composite connector and a composite-SCART adaptor. SCART can handle all different types of signals, composite is just one. The SCART connection that will make a difference is probably sending RGB signals instead of composite, which is up there with YUV component video for quality. Beware though, some TVs (mainly cheap/older) don't support anything other than composite on their SCART inputs.

You had the same prob as me (My eyes are burning!) :)

So one of the lads here told me about this :

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-de-49-en-70-1smg.html

Like one of them olskool switches, cept for different consoles, gives you 480p HD signal on the Wii

Hope this helps....

The third party scarts are usually just as good if not better since they are usually gold plated.

@ ntlbell: You really need to get yourself a proper scart cable if you have a TV that supports it, the difference really is huge.

coolaboola, with get the hmv one (Logic 3 branded) after work!

@ ntlbell: If you're tv has two types of scart sockets like mine: half and full, make sure you put it in the full scart socket!

They look the same but:
Full Scart socket is wired for Audio, RBG Signal, Composite and S-Video
Half Scart Socket is Wired for Audio, Composite and S-Video.

well i bought that one and cant say i see any noticeable difference :(
Is there anythind i need to change on the wii?

Retrogamer, do you use a 3rd party one? Is so which brand?

It could be a case of the Scart lead also containing a composite signal... If that's the case then a setting on the TV will change between them. E.g. my Philips TV has AV1 and AV2 channels for the 2 Scart sockets, but I have to switch to RGB1 to get the RGB signal from the #1 Scart socket.

i dont think so. when connected through the composite it comes through on AV but when connected through the scart it comes through on scart1. Cant see any options to do anything like you did on your t.v.

do you reccomend any particular type?

Does using RGB scart enable the 480p option on the menu?

You need the component cable for 480p

@Scruff: It might be the scart socket of your TV that is the problem. My TV has 2 scart connectors but only the AV1 socket is wired for scart, I get a ****ty composite signal from the other 2. Try putting it in the primary AV socket. Check if your TV suppurts scart. As for your other question, i'm usuing the official nintendo scart lead.

Also you might have to turn on RGB scart in the settings of the Wii, I know you need to do it on the 360 and PS3, it's so long since I got my scart lead for the Wii that I can't remember.

I can't recommend any scart cable over another. You are best to go with a gold plated on but even then the difference between gold plated and not gold plated is impossible to see. All scart cables are usually of high quality.

I picked one up from Maplin for approximately €20 I think. I find it very good. Composite is complete sh*te compared to proper RGB. Just ensure you actually have and RGB SCART input on your TV. Check the manual. My TV has three SCART sockets and only one of them does RGB.

Bloody pain is the arse that no one supplies these with their consoles. I've had to buy one for my GC, PS2 and now my Wii. I suppose it won't be a problem in the future with HDMI.

That helps me ALOT. I use the component cable (5 component type) and I get tired of changing for Wii and PS.

Is the quality of that cable better than scart? Are you all talking about the Red White and Yellow components?

The red, white yellow lead cables are what give you the terrible quality picture. A proper scart cable is what you usually get with a decent DVD player.

All sorted, had to fiddle with a few tv settings, mainly was due to my colour settings giving it a washed out look. Only playing N64 games but happy with how they are looking now, not bad for €13. cheers for the help!

Does gamestop sell RGB scart cables and are they easy to find?

Hi, I've an N64 myself, what cable did you get and where ?

Are the new Wii video cables compatible with old N64 ?

I just got a huge TV projector screen, and dying to play N64 on it :D

cheers,
Owen

The best quality cables for an N64 are unfortunately the awful composite cables. Nintendo in their infinite stupidity saw fit to remove scart output from european consoles. If you have an american N64 (which you should get instead of the awful european one with slower games and borders) you can use s-video or mod it for scart output. You can't mod a european console for scart.

The Wii cables aren't compatible with the N64.
