Does anyone have any experience on Advance Pitstop in Little Island, Cork?

I went to them to get a new battery for the car, OK a small job but I was just wondering if they would be any good for bigger jobs (like changing a timing belt)??

I shopped around for price and these guys are coming in a lot cheaper than other (non advanced pitstop) garages.

I've always found their service to be top notch, despite the bad reputation. They went beyond the call of duty for me once or twice to get cars through the NCT.

AFAIK, the Little Island branch of Advance is new. Let them change the batteries, tyres and other straight forward tasks, but personally, I wouldn't let them near a job like a timing belt.

forget about crosstownk- do what I said:D

I wouldn't say they're an automatic no to do this job but maybe if you were erring on the side of caution you're probably better off trying to find someone who specialises in the make of your car.

What kind of car is it?

I use Advance on a daily basis and I'm not joking when I say that I'd sooner tow a car to a competent repairer to do larger jobs rather than letting Advance take a spanner to the car. Don't get me wrong, Advance do have their place and I find them quite good and reasonable in jobs that are 'up their street'. Advance are in the game of getting a car in, doing the job and getting the car out as fast as they possibly can. I wouldn't be happy having a timing belt done within those constraints.

On my own personal car they can change the tyres - nothing else!

I do not know why are you arguing, cause those guys don't do big jobs anyway.
They change batteries, exhausts, tires, brakes and that is pretty all.
They do not even change bulbs on headlights.
This is what the company do and that's it.

Anyway I used them a few times and they were quick and the job done was good (Full exhaust replaced on my old E36).

They do a lot more than what you state. Their ASCs (Advance Service Centres) claim to do what any garage can do. Not all branches offer this service. They will do brake pads, services, exhausts, suspensions, etc.

I use them daily for bulb changes - but there are some makes/models that they refuse to change bulbs (usually headlight bulbs).

    :eek:Not arguing folks, just kidding...

I probably wouldn't get a timing belt done there either but they have done a few mountings here and there for me when I was stuck, so i have no great disaffection for them. Some wouldn't leave them near their car for any reason and I think that's a bit excessive....

i use the one in little island all the time ,they now have mechanics there from the old dennehys cross garage working there, also the lad who runs the show James use to run the service counter in dennehys cross garage as well,so they have plenty of knowledge there, all ex main dealer staff there ,its a sign of the times, the main dealers cant afford to pay there top mechanics anymore ,the dealers are holding onto there apprentices and leaving there high cost mechanics go ,its good for the customer because
advances labour rate is only half the of the price of some of the dealers
