Format of the Guinness World RecordTM Attempt Charity Shoot

Format for the Guinness World RecordTM Attempt Charity Shoot :

The shoot will be starting at 2pm on Friday the 19th of October and ending the following day. It will be held in the GMIT sports hall (in Galway).

There will be one line of archers shooting. 3 arrows in 2 minutes. Arrows will be collected after each 3 shots by stewards and run back to the archers in 1 minute or less.
There will not be time to score the arrows.

Each archer will be assigned a steward and they will be working in shifts through the night.

If you miss the butt completely you are out. We will be using 60 cm faces and if you miss the target face and hit straw its fine.

For each hour completed a 5 min long break is allowed. You can accumulate these 5 min breaks. There will be witnesses there noting when breaks are taken and how long a break you have accumulated in log books.

There will be water, coffee, (hopefully red bull) etc available throughout as well as food. Anyone at the college before the attempt has started can avail of food vouchers from our canteen and we will have runners picking up food and any other necessities throughout the event.

I will have my 2 massage tables there and I will be looking after people who have pulled muscles etc. There will hopefully be a few more therapists there to look after people especially in the latter stages and between shots on the Saturday.

I don’t want anyone pushing themselves too far. There will be medical and first aid people there and if you are in really really bad shape they can ask you to stop and get some rest.

If anyone has any questions, please contact me here or through email.

Have hardly done any archery since I left college and yet I'd be tempted (if nothing else I'd be curious as to how long I could last), can't make it though (damn work!) so I'll just wish everyone involved the best of luck.
Make sure to post up who lasts the longest.:)

So any more details about this coming? Like what times do you want people to be there at - I assume you would prefer to stager the archers to actually achieve the world record?

Also, I certainly am not intending to go for th 28 hours :) I put my name down to shoot for a few hours and got some sponsorship - will I be subject to the 2 mins shoot/1 min collection ( I worry about how well you will be able to pull that off :/ )?

And finally - do GMIT archers have a website? Just curious as it would be nice to follow what is happening at the club and be able to contact people without have to resort to boards.ie :)

We are indeed over at both http://gmitac.bebo.com and http://nav.to/gmitac, although I'm flat out in college, so the sites are all but fledgeling..but you can find us!

i was over there earlier today.
    Seems to be going well

They had been shooting for 4 hours at that stage.

The whole point is to have everyone shooting for the whole 28 hours.
Seriously tough task with only 5 minutes break every hour.

ill be calling back over tomorrow. It will be interesting to see who is still standing. Man everyone is going to he in pain on sunday.

well they did it anyway. Man it took some effort on the part of the 6 people who made it to the end. i think 19 or 20 started.

Its is advertised as 28 hours as the record but seen as they had to take their 5 minute breaks every hour into consideration it ended up being something like 31 hours.

Id wouldnt be supprised if these guys never wanted to see a bow again!

Id have a hard time staying awake that long nevermind having to shoot.

What supprised me the most is that the guys were still grouping at the end. lol.

fair play to the guys to make it to the end and everyone that took part in it and organising the event.

    Hi!!!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all their support. We started with 13 very brave souls and the 6 who finished were

    Thomas Breen (GMIT)
    Padraig Kelly (GMIT)
Dale Burke (Galway Archers and and Honorary GMIT...he is 16 so serious congrats!!!)
    Cian O' Sullivan (UL)
    Brian O'Moore (DCU)
    Harry Lyster (DIT)

Everyone who shot, all the arrow collectors, medical support team, witnesses, family and friends who came in to support us, everyone at GMIT and all the businesses, local public and media who got involved deserve a really huge THANK YOU!!! We couldn't have pulled it off without all of you.

There is still money coming in and at the end of next week all of it will be going to the People in Need Trust. I'll post a figure soon.
