Dell motherboard replacement needed urgently!

I'm in dire & desperate need of a motherboard for a Dell dimension 2400, it's got a sticker on from which I've been told the part no. is g1548, it's a socket 478, does anyone happen to know where I can lay hands on one at a reasonable price, I've called Dell parts & they're quoting over stg£100 :eek:

(b4 anyone says so, yeah, I know it's old! but it was still good enough for the younger kids)

Its no longer possible to get socket 478's new....

Thanks for that link, I'm going to explore it a bit further.... but I've been told that it has to be an exact like for like board - any thoughts on this? has anyone done a swap-out with another board successfully?

No doesnt need to be "like for like", but in a dell case you might not be able to change the plate that surrounds the ports

thanks again for your reply, do you mean that the plate isn't removable or that the gap is the wrong size for a normal plate that comes with the replacement board? sorry to be so dense!

The plate on the back of your dell is not replaceable...probably built intentionally like that!

Chances are a new motherboard may not fit the same holes (output connectors in different places)

if i got a standard aTX one would the psu need to be changed also?

Go Like for Like...... the control panel cable would be a dell only cable i think which wouldnt fit on a non Dell motherboard.(wont be able to turn the system on and front USB and Audio ports wont work also ???
