if not you need to talk to the head of your school. he/she will be able to help you out there.

There isnt usually a problem at theis early stage, assuming you have high enough points for multimedia

robdcu: i did ordinary maths too
listen to the chief there and organise a meeting with the head of the course. I say give it a lash though

Rob and anyone else in same position; My advice… hang in there. It still is early days. Yes, I know maths is hard, but plenty of ppl with ord LC maths get thru every year, so you can. If you really in doubt then talk to Mike Clancy – he really is approachable.
If you really want to change, then talk to David Sinclair – programme Board chair – but I think it’s too late.
Listen to Wilburt’s advice. I honestly believe that if ppl hang in there and work hard till end of 1st year then you’ll feel different. Best of luck.

rob... if you want il give you a hand, i can meet with you monday. As i said i was in the exact same position as you, wanting to leave the course and drop out. I am so glad i stuck it out. The maths isnt too hard once you get a handle on it. The maths learning centre is great, the guy in there is amazing. The programming is also managable. If you want a hand send me an IM and i will organise to meet you. Hang in there! :D

    best advice in this thread....

hang in there man, sit down aftger a maths lecture and go through the problems. nothing a bit of extra work cant fix.

if maths is still a year long subject you wont have an exam till may anyway, bar the in-class assignments

from what i've heard over the years, multimedia is pretty handy short hours etc...

job prospects arnt the best either. this is only what i've heard so take it lightly

i'll say to you again though mate, its only the end of week 3, nobody said it was going to be easy. put the head down and you'll be fine, take up Will's pretty sound offer if needs be

but, if you wanna bail and take the easy option, you can change over if you get the form signed by the board chair. you will have to have the points though(410). you can also drop out of college until the 30th of October without having to pay fees for repeating. you'll also get a refund of your 800 or so euro aswell

Today is the final day for transfers. I'm doing it, just need one more signature. Having a little trouble tracking down the other guy I need. It'll cost €30. Get down to registry ASAP and have a chat.

UPDATE : I've gotten my signatures and filled in the form. The only thing now is to wait for registry to reopen from lunch. I'm sick and want to be in my bed :( Trekked out here so I could spend 5 mins sorting my transfer and an hour sitting online. Boo erns! (Yes, I know it was my own fault for timing it so badly but I'm cranky and don't feel well so I'm allowed!)

Does clancy allow you to bring in a cheat sheet for ur test? - maybe it was just our course, but for fourier analysis, you were allowed to bring in a cheat sheet- one lad i know had 80% of the test on his sheet -

He let us bring in a cheat sheet for the final exam. That was two years ago, but I doubt that policy has changed.

As far as I can remember we couldn't bring anything in for the class tests, but they were multiple choice and not too difficult.

For the record any time I've ever talked to him he's been a very nice guy, not a **** stain!

For MS120 a couple of years ago we were allowed to bring 1 A4 sheet that you could fill up with whatever you wanted. Test was pretty handy anyway in that it was exactly the same material covered by the tutorial sheets and you can get help on them in the tutorials and MLC if needs be.

The level of maths you'll do in CA (up to 3rd year at least cos thats where i am) isn't as tough as higher level leaving cert, you should be able to handle it with an ordinary level LC maths qualification - the way its presented is just totally different (better) and takes a bit of getting used to.

Enjoy Clancy's lectures - he is hilarious!
