:: PLEASE MOVE THIS IF IT'S IN THE WRONG FORUM :::confused:

I am wondering what is the story with the whole of Ireland getting postcodes?
I had read about a year ago that it would be introduced in January 2008. But have heard nothing since.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Seems one company has gotten fed up waiting for the minister to introduce them and has introduced its 'own'! They're working with Garmin to get them introduced into their SatNavs, apparently:

Yeah, right  About much chance of that as someone discovering a flying chocolate teapot around Mars.

no, i think they have something working with Garmin already.

The website they have set up is pretty cool.

There are big problems though. I have big misgivings about the PONC scheme. See http://www.eire.com/2008/03/20/gpsireland-postcode-ideas/

There are ways to do this which are simpler to understand and cheaper to implement.

DX is an alternative postal system used mostly by solicitors for legal documents. Everyone in the system has a DX number.
