Now before i say anything i know everyone has bad beats blah blah blah..this post is not about me sayin wo is me, i lost again!!! It's about me going through 6 hours of torture where almost every hand i went to a showdown with pre flop or on the flop i was ahead at least 70% and lost!!

My question is how do you deal with that?? All helpful replies will be appreciated. I'm seriously gonna lose my hair if i don't figure out some way of dealin with the stress off ridiculous runs cos i know i will get them, like everyone...I just dont wanna lose a perfectly good computer or whatever else happens to be lying around not nailed down cos of it..cheers

I deal with it by knowing that it's just variance.

masturbation is the answer. or get a pet that you can torture. e.g. kitten

I dunno. I have lost quite a few hands recently where I have been dogged and the result is I have actually started to play a lot worse than usual.
My advice would be too stop playing poker for a while.
Well either that or buy a cat you can boot everytime you get dogged.

I'm only playing a few months, but anyway. If you're good at poker, and not great, just good, you can make a lot of money. The ONLY hardship associtated with making money from poker is dealing with the times where its going against you, which really if you can get your mindset right, is a small price to pay.
Some of the things I do is look back at all the big hands I lost in PT and see if I could do anything different. If there wasn't then thats great. Suckouts and winning on bad plays are the reason bad players continue to play, and the reason the money is there to be made, so stupid suckouts are an essential part of winning. Good players dont benefit from them, because most of the time they get their money ahead.
Try to convince yourself not to worry about things that happen in batches of less than 20K hands. I was terrible for constantly watching my winrate and I figured lets say its at 8ptbb/100 after 5k hands. One suckout with a full-buy in means it shoulda been 9bb/100, but is 7 instead. So it really doesnt tell you anything about how good you are until the sample size is huge.
Last thing I do when I have 1 or 2k bad hands is look at some peoples pokergrapher graphs and see how downswings are only part of the picture. If you look at dvdfans blog, He regularly has 4 or 5 buy-in slides in his graphs, but nearly every week by the time he's played a lot of hands he's way ahead.
You should give 'Zen and the Art of Poker' a read too if you're in really bad shape!

I suggest that you review the sesion more in PT.
Its alot easier to remeber the times you get sucked out on, rather than times you suck out. Review all your show downs, see what shape you were in and reassess, you were probably ahead alot, but staring at it makes it less of a knock to the system, as you se little tings you did wrong (such as giving the correct ods) or you own lucking hands

take a break - seriously - the only answer

    Take a break.
It just gets your mind off it. I have problems with tilting quite badly, so i just go for a walk or some form of exercise.
Maybe then when you've taken your mind off it a little go back over the hand history. If you get to cool down a bit after a bad run of variance/playing bad, and then go and look at with a cool head, it's a lot easier to deal with.

Smoke a ciggie, it sure helps ease me.

Or alternatively, like everyone suggests, just review your hands, and play more hands, good players win in the long run.

You don't care about dealing with variance. You care about losing.

punching a wall is good - it then fúcks up your hand too!

it's very hard to stop playing when you get bad beat (IMO anyway)...i just try to carry on and win it back which happens often enough for me to justify carrying on playing.

i had a real swingy session today where i went 4 BI's up very quickly, then lost 10 BI's (tilted like mad) but sat out for 5 mins, got a drink went for walk then sat back at the same tables and then finished up 5 BI's

I've been through periods where when i was 80% ahead I would loose 80% of the time... and that is no messing...... but I've learned to manage it and realise now matter how bad I run if I'm properly bankrolled I can ride it out... I regularly drop a level when things are not running to plan and it builds confidence... wrost in a row Ithink was earlier this year with a 15 buy in downswing at 1/2 which was a combinain of variance and bad play... I find myself a much better player now than I was then and find coping with the beats is part fo the job......

do like me... stick it in the bb sticky and forget about it then.. :)

This week I've been dealing with it mainly by punching things, but I'm nowhere near as big a tilt monster as you are mormank. :)

What shocks me about that is you actually won 20% of them!

Swearing is the first reaction, depression is good for a bit, then swearing you will never play again ..... but you will.

you may say that as a joke, but regular ejaculation is known to decrease stress levels

    usually move up levels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,327 ✭✭✭NeoSlicerZ

I sigh, reload and play more aggro on the premise that the more they fold the less I get sucked out on.

Ya sure. It is losing but i think that if you are ahead almost everytime, and yesterday i was, then its called variance. No??

all good contributions, cheers..some very funny ones too!! you know who you are! :-)

the best thing to cure tilt I find is to make some horrible play and suck out on someone, of course you can lose alot of money in the process of doing so :p

    QFT.

Or you could go play micro stakes PLO Flips with the boardsies, that'll cure your tilt to no end, oh wait, that's if your name is reggie and you can run as hot as a man on fire :D
