I'd imagine it's pretty safe to assume that almost everyone who plays on-line from the comfort of their bedrooms listens to music while they play.

There's certainly no way that music helps your game, so it's either a hindrance or it doesn't really effect you.

So is listening to music while playing on-line -EV?

Is listening to music while playing poker online -EV? 21 votes

I say no as I listen to it all the time when playing... now more worrying is tonight I watched an episode of prison break and heroes and that stupid film lucky you while playing 6 tables... now that should be -EV for sure but had a good one!!!

Think the music helps though... I wear a good pair of Senn HD25s and have the poker sound in the background.... bad beats and relaxing music go well

The new Radiohead album is officially free (unless you want to pay for it). Only 160KBPS mind, but it's fücking brilliant.

I don't think you can jump to that conclusion. It might help some people relax, or get motiviated etc..

I find it doesn't really affect me and that I tend to tune music out.

    How do you do that
There is no way you can watch them properly. In Heroes case that it is not a bad thing tbh.

I find that Bob Dylan's Blood On The Tracks is effective at bring me down off tilt quite quickly (Rapidly highlights that there is more to life than poker) ; its def. saved my ass in a few tournaments

    so.. + EV

I love music, but prefer none when I multi-table.
However, I could not play live without my Ipod.

Scientific Journal study of how music affects work efficiency.

Interesting,if long-winded report on how music affects work-rate.

"Her experiment showed that people produce more quality work while listening to music and they finish their work faster when listening to music. "

I use music to alter my body chemistry and mental state. if I want to get aggressive I might throw on Rage, Korn, Eminem, if I want to be more patient I might put on jazz or classical or Massive Attack etc...
    It definitely makes a difference.

I have problems paying attention, no matter how many tables I am playing I will also be surfing forums or talking on IM. Music helps as an extra distraction that doesn't actually take my concentration away from the table. I can't watch TV or films while I play though.

sometimes when im listening to the radio and Westlife comes on, I go on tilt , so the radio can be -EV. but I find some brahms is EV plus .

as some dude remarked earlier RH new Album -> brill so ++++++

when I get a bad beat. I rock forwards and backwards and hum, this also helps

some of the background music on pornotube can be off putting though.

I don't usually listen to music when I'm multitabling but sometimes I'll put some on if I want to calm down a little or relax. Nothing like some soothing house music to pass away a few hundred hands ;) .

the title of my 1st thesis was "The effects of music on performance in sport" (or something like that)

I concluded that (enjoyable) music had a ++EV effect on your game

    Case closed!!

Godspeed you Black Emperor - Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada

    ftw.

In answer to your question it helps me play, if I choose the right music.

the howard shore soundtrack for the departed movie is great poker playing music.

i tend to listen to classical music though as it camls the tilt down.
megadeath music would just throw me over the edge

I have to have some background music on, with the poker sound OFF, I prefer music, no lyrics as they are distracting.....Jazz, classical and Spanish Quitar, Ottmar Liebert pure class!

I love listening to music when i play online and live, but i have to admit that my ipod did cost me in a live tournament once.
I looked down at a8 diamonds on button with 15 players left and shoved allin, but i had missed a player raising utg, as the dealer was in my line of vision, and had i not been listening to music i would have heard the verbal raise. Needless to say he turned over aces and that was the end of my tourney.
But online i listen to music all the time, it relieves the boredom for me.
