Ok apologies for what may seem a completely obvious question.
If I were to buy an airsoft rifle I gather from another thread I'd have to licence it as a firearm thus incurring a 38 euro annual fee or I can join a club which I also assume incurs an annual fee.
I think most of my stuff will be backyard stuff with friends and I'm in secondary school so I don't think I want to pay 38 euros annually.

Could someone explain to me exactly whether or not I need to licence it or do I just need permission from a superintendent.

In short no you wont need a license as long as its under 1 joule of power.
