hi, this may be the most obvious question in the world but i just can't work it out ?!?!

who cuts the granite/stone composite worktops that you buy from B&Q?

was wanting to get a granite/solid worktop for kitchen (already installed and waiting for its top) but not found anyone to do it. did find an old thread from here suggesting place in longford so will go there if there is no way to cut b&q's top. was hoping to do it cheaper on my own / or with someone cutting it for me?!?! have no idea if this is at all possible.
did try funeral home on someones suggestion but guy never got back to me. when i went back to enquire secretary said he was busy embalming so couldn 't talk to me ........ kind of put me off eating..........my worktop etc.
anyway he still didn't get back to me so i called once more and secretary said alot of people had died recently (cavan) so he was busy with funerals (kind of obviously more important than my kitchen)...... anyway i gave up after that cause i felt guilty bothering them about something so mundane. i do know that he does do them though cause he has a van driving around town advertising.
    anyhow.........
    i digress..........
    thanks anyway,
    :)

thanks jdpl....... do you know what the name of the skilled person who would do it would be. that sounds like i can't speak english. what i mean is is there a name for the person who would do that cutting ie an electritian fixes electrical things, plumber fixes pipes / water things. what is the name of a person that cuts stone? stone mason? or is that an old fashioned word? i was thinking of looking someone up in the yellow pages. if i had one.
    thanks
    :)

you could also try any of the fireplace guys (like Buckleys etc)
They make them up the dublin mountains a their workshop, should be in the book.

You could try a 'monumental works' rather than a funeral home. These are the guys who do the gravestones.

    You could also read

    http://www.marblemaster.com/granite/granite_slab/faq.html

According to this, you can cut granite with a skilsaw. I have no idea if this is true or how difficult it would be.

wow, thanks for all the information guys!!!!!!!!!!! i am a covert diy-er..... small skirt wearing female that loves pink but when no one is looking LOVES doing things around the house. even managed to lay solid oak flooring (55sq yrds) by studying web and reading all the relelant posts on this site. just paid someone else to do the skirtings cause i felt i wouldn't have been able to do it neatly enough
anyway, now i'm off to source my bargin granite countertop. it is a bit risky to try cutting it myself but will read up on it, who knows :)
    thanks again
future stone masonnette in the making
ps: dont' know how i would lift the granite though as i'm quite puny..... maybe this is a no no and i'll explore the monumental works option. i think i got confused and going to the funeral home was a mistake now that i read that monumental post. mortifying no wonder he didn't call me back. sherbit i hope they don't send me there when i die.........
    thanks again
    :o

HI Just wondering did you ever find anyone to cut the granite. I am now in a similar situation as i need to cut the sink area out of the granite and also to cut a few other pieces of granite to fit the countertops. I bought a display kitchen so granite doesn't fit my kitchen layout. Just wondering is there anyone in cavan area that comes to house to cut granite.

    many thanks

You could try Caffrey's Natural Stone here in Drogheda.

They do work all over the country, my brother used to work for them
years ago and did loads of kitchen installs.
