My parents are on holidays at the min and going to Gibraltar which is meant to be cheep they tell me??? Anyway, i'm looking for a digi cam for college and my parents asked if i wanted them to have a look over there for one.

Haven't really a clue whats good/bad. Parents have a casio 7.2mp cam, i've used it over the summer and found alot of the pics cam out a little blurry (specially the ones with low lighting) the ones that didnt where quite sharp.

I need one for college (architectural technology) and i'd like to use it for action shot (skating, car races etc). My experience with some of the didgi cams i've used are that they never take the picture when i want it to there's often a short delay between pressing the button and capturing the scene.

Ultimatly i'd like a DSLR but i'm pretty sure such a good camera would be wasted on me. I think a small pocketable cam would suit me much better.

Have you got experience with a camera that might suit me i'd like to hear? I'll have a gander on some sites and see what looks suitable.
What sort of things should i be looking out for, which brands are good etc?

    Jozi

My advice would be, go into your local camera shop, tell them what you need, look at what they recommend & get a feel for what you like.
Then go to another shop & do the same thing.

By the way, be careful buying anything outside of the EU, as the warranty may not be valid. If you're only saving a few quid, it's not really worth it.

Check out dpreview.com - they have a camera suggestion function where you can put in your wants and they'll suggest a camera.

Having said that Canon make very good compacts, Fuji f31fd is nice for its low light capabilities and Panasonic has nice zooms in compact bodies.

Of course, being a Nikon user I suggest getting them to see if the D40 is cheap over there (circa. E400) dSLRs do not have shutter lag and the D40 is mighty compact (for a dSLR ;) )

See photos taken with it here:
