    Hi there,
I was wondering if anybody knows anythig about the runninng their diesel engines on bio-diesel?
How well does it run, is is legal or what?
I want to start making my own stuff as I f*cking hate the global petrochemical industry...

Making your own stuff is a bit of extra hassle, you need to filter and add other stuff to it to make it more viscous, but it will run in any diesel engine.

    Of course its legal.
In fact you can run most diesels on Vegetable Oil mix with no problems and with conversion you can run on 100% straight vegetable oil.

works out at around 67c / litre before declaring your usage for tax purposes

I know a guy thats been running his 2.0L Straight Diesel Fiat Punto for 2 years on straight vegetable oil.

    hi craichoe
thanx for the reply, however, I was wondering how Inland Revenue track one's usage of bio diesel. Do they send someone out to check the mileage or what?
Secondly one could just go around all the chippers and Indians and stock up with a slurry tank no?

Technically it is not legal to simply buy veg oil in tesco and use it to fuel your car, nor is it legal to use home brew biodiesel to fuel your car, excise duty must first be paid on the fuel. Here's the catch however, there's no mechanism for an ordinary joe soap to pay the excise duty. There are a number of companies who have recieved a special exemption from the exise duty on bio fuels. You can purchase oil from these to run your car. One of them is eilis oils in wicklow but I'm not too sure who the rest are.

Does anything have to be done to the engine of the car before it will run on vegetable oil?

Whats stopping 1oo's of tousands of people doing this it seem a whole lot cheaper?

Loads of people do run on Bio-Diesel.

But vegetable oil is a different kettle of fish. You need to have some cars converted and certain fuel pumps aren't up to the job.

To run on 100% straight vegetable oil you need a conversion.

I see customs dipping lots of trucks and vans around here. They're checking for agri diesel though, I've never heard of them looking for biofuel.

So bi-diesel is just a straight swap? Where would you get it?
