N-Europe: News: Massive News From Nintendo Conference

Lots of exciting news regarding the Wii. New 1st and 3rd party games, WiiWare titles, new Wii Channels, and more...

Last night, Nintendo held a conference. During this conference lots of exciting things were announced. Here's the rundown on what happened:

    New Wii Games

Two new Wii games were announced. Monster Hunter 3 and Super Mario Stadium Baseball.

Monster Hunter 3 is a hacnk 'n Slash game with role-playing elements from Capcom. The game was previously announced for the PS3. The aim of Monster Hunter is to achieve the highest Hunter Rank by completing missions.

Super Mario Stadium Baseball is the sequel to the GameCube's Mario Superstar Baseball and will be the second Mario sport title on the Wii. I probably don't need to mention that it's main feature will be the Wii Remote.

    New DS Game

Nintendo have announced Fire Emblem DS, another instalment in Nintendo's turn-based RPG/Strategy games. Not much information was released on the title.

    New WiiWare Games

New WiiWare titles were announced: Mojipittan Wii, Doctor Mario Wii, Pokemon Farm, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land, Joysound (Karaoke) and Bomberman.

Pokémon Farm allows you to grad Pokémon from Diamond/Pearl and raise them in a farm-like environment on the Wii.

The biggest WiiWare game was Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King and the Promised Land. It will be available for 1500 Wii Points and is a fully 3D game and lets you build your own country.

    New Wii Channels

The Mii-comparing Check Mii Out channel will be available in Japan this November. A new channel was also announced - a DS Demo Channel, which turns your Wii into a DS download station. The Everybody Votes Channel will soon be updated and will allow Wii owners to rate their games.

    Other Stuff

Some Super Smash Bros. Brawl information was released. Sonic the Hedgehog will be a playable character, and will be able to transform into Super Sonic. Brawl will also feature online co-op. It has also been delayed until the 24th January, 2008 in Japan.

Mario Kart Wii will include motorcycles. The Wii Steering Wheel will be thrown in for free.

    Nintendo's Wii Ware Lineup Detailed
Wi-Fi play for Dr. Mario confirmed!
    by Anoop Gantayat

October 10, 2007 - Following Nintendo's press briefing earlier today in Japan, new details have come to light on the company's initial lineup of Wii Ware downloadable games for the Japanese market.

Coinciding with third party announcements like Star Soldier R, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, and Moji Pittan Wii, Nintendo itself announced four games of its own: Dr. Mario & Saikin Bokumetsu, Pokemon Bokujou Channel, Maruboushikaku, and Minna de Puzzloop. Here's what we know about each game.

In Pokemon Bokujou Channel (that's English for Pokemon Ranch Channel), you transfer your your Pokemon from Diamond and Pearl on the DS to your Wii. You can then manage the Pokemon in a ranch environment. You're free to bring your Mii and your family's Miis to your ranch and can do things like taking pictures of your Pokemon which can then be sent to friends.

Dr. Mario & Saikin Bokumetsu (the Japanese at the end translates to "Bacteria Extermination") is a remake of the classic Dr. Mario puzzler. You can make your Mii appear in place of the Mario characters, and can challenge friends over Wi-Fi. The game includes the Saikin Bokumetsu game from the Japanese Brain Age 2, which can now be play cooperatively with four players.

Maruboushikaku is a puzzle game themed in three patterns: maru (circle), bou (line) and shikaku (square). The game displays three game windows simultaneously, each focusing on one of these patterns. Your actions in one window have effects in the other windows, which should make for a blast when playing in three player mode.

Finally, Minna de Puzzloop (Puzzloop with Everyone). This is a Wii version of the game that was released in America as Magnetica. You use the Wii mote for direct control. The game supports up to four players for cooperative and competitive play.

The Wii Ware titles will be downloaded in similar fashion to Virtual Console games. You purchase them using Wii Points from the Wii Shopping Channel, then can access them as separate channels from the main Wii interface.

Pricing and release dates were not announced for these titles, but we're expecting them to arrive close to the Japanese launch of the service in March of next year.

Be sure and check out the rest of today's updates for screenshots from all these games.

Hudson Brings Karaoke to Wii Ware
Bomberman and Star Soldier also joining download lineup.
    by Anoop Gantayat

October 10, 2007 - Hudson has quickly jumped aboard the Wii Ware bandwagon with three titles. Following up on Nintendo's press briefing in Japan today, the publisher announced Bomberman, Star Soldier R and Joy Sound Wii for the service.

Bomberman and Star Soldier R appear to be brand new entries in their respective series. While details weren't given out on Bomberman, screenshots of Star Soldier R show a 3D vertical shooter with big explosions and lots of targets. Star Soldier is apparently far along enough that it was shown in playable form at Nintendo's press conference.

Joy Sound is a Wii Ware version of Xing's Joysound karaoke machine. The service will feature periodically updated music downloads, mini games and more, replicating a full karaoke machine in your home. Hudson will release a USB microphone, although it's unclear if the game will support general USB microphones as well. The company is also planning a package version bundling the USB microphone with a disk featuring party games, mini games and a number of popular songs.

All three Wii Ware games are set for Spring. Pricing has yet to be announced.

    Crystal Chronicles Pricing Set
Fifteen bucks for a new Final Fantasy adventure?
    by IGN Staff

October 9, 2007 - Following today's announcement of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for Nintendo's Wii Ware download service, Square Enix has opened up an official webpage for the game, fully titled Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Chiisa na Ousama to Yakusoku no Kuni (Little King and the Promised Country).

The page is in teaser form at the moment and provides only a few pieces of artwork and story details. The game will tell the story of what happened after the original Crystal Chronicles. The Little King of the subtitle, who lost his kingdom due to the events of the first game, gains from the crystals the power to build things. He uses this to revive his fallen kingdom. The game's genre is "Country Building RPG."

Also revealed at the page is release information for the game. Crystal Chronicles will be available for download at a cost of 1,500 Wii Points. It will be available, in Japan, simultaneously with the start of the Wii Ware service, which is expected in March 2008.

This may be a mini project, but it has a series staff list. Serving as director is Kenichiro Yuji, who previously worked on Front Mission Online. Motome Toriyama, of Final Fantasy XII and X-2 fame, is directing the game's scenario. You'll recognize Toshiyuki Itahana, art supervisor, and Kumi Tanioka, composer, from past Crystal Chronicles games.

Another announced thing was DS demos that can be downloaded through the Wii.

Nintendo Europe also have an annoucment about a Logitech keyboard that will work with the Wii. All usb keyboards work with the Wii since the last update but I think this is the first time they've said it.
