Anyone remember a tv show from round about 1985 which was set around a big white ship. There were always pirates and stuff like that in it. I think the show was called after the ship.

From what I remember it used to be on day time/morning tv. I dont think it was aimed at kids but I loved it.

Also does anybody know the detective show where the two main characters were brothers. One of them dressed like a cowboy and the other in suits. The mother has been buggin me for years tofind out the name of it.

Yep, Simon and Simon is definitely the detective one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJay4ex5EGM. It was a Magnum PI spin-off.
All that the first one reminds me of (bar the pirates bit) is The Love Boat.

ROFL at your sig!!! What a memory!
Yeah Simon and Simon - what a "manly" show! In the same tradition as The Fall Guy (recently discussed around these parts) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NGqwxz1S-k. I never get tired of watching Wiggum P.I. on The Simpsons spin-off edition, for putting the sheer ridiculousness of all those (admittedly entertaining) 80s shows in a nutshell.
As for the ship programme: maybe one of those old-fashioned type things like Treasure Island or something?

It wasn't Riptide was it, your description though sounds more like a love boat type thing
Not exactly a ship, but it had a big white boat and modern day pirates, and the orange robot and helicopter
Used to love the show, was only able to find out what it was called in the last few months

Thanks for all sugestions. Alas no joy on the ship front.

The show was set in the 1700's or 1800's.

It was kinda like those Hornblower films. Im gonna see if I can find any tv listing from the eighties on the net. A serious long shot

Would it have been The Onedin Line? Originally aired between '71 and '80 but no doubt RTE showed it years after.

I think i am thinking of teh 1976 series of swiss family robinson

I would agree with dudess but dont remember that many episodes with pirates.

Tee hee... Yep, The Onedin Line was certainly a show that WOULDN'T have featured pirates!

Yea I actually combed the net the other night and came across the onedin line. It looks kinda familiar but judging from what I watched on the net pirates wouldnt be a regular accurance.

I think it could be the Lost Island.Did the theme tune go..
"Once there was a wealthy man who had a wondeffull idea
took children from all places with all kinds of faces
together into a siling ship there were forty boys and girls
he sailed the ship around the world so they called it The united world.."??

The rest of the story involved them being marooned on an island which was ruled over by a masked tyrant..Does this sound right?

    edit..

Christ almighty, what a descriptive theme tune...
"Then one of them got hungry, and ate a king-size mars bar etc. etc"

    Still no joy.

I think it was set somewhere around the carribean, There were a lot of black slaves & sword fights

The last time I saw it I was about 7 and thats 20 years ago.

    Thanks for all sugestions everyone

I think there was possibly a number of shows like that. Treasure Island, Coral Island maybe.

There was a mini serious from New Zealand from 1987 called The Adventurers starring Oliver
Tobias. He was an English capitan in the early 19th century who was on the run from some reason. He was accompanied by a fat English sailor, a thin cowardly irish sailor, a Maori warrior and a Chinese cook who of course knew Kung Fu. They were all the time being chased by a very nasty English capitan who was determined to bring them to justice.

    Hope this helps.
