Anyone knows what part delivers power to a LCD monitor?

    Hi,

Yesterday my Acer AL2223W broke. Just went black all of a sudden and power LED is off. I tried to change power cable but it didn't help. I assume its the power supply inside the LCD which I believe is called a power inverter.

I have a couple of questions.

First am I correct in assuming that most likely the power inverter is at fault given the fact that power LED is off too?

Second, How difficult is it to change the power inverter. I hope someone has done something similar before.

Third, anyone has any schematics of the AL2223W monitor bc I couldn't find anything on either Acer or with google.

I actually have still warranty but its a monitor from the U.S. and the U.K branch wont honor this warranty. Shipping 7kg to the U.S. to have them fix it is like 100Euros with An-post which is insane.

I could also ship it to Acer U.K. and they would fix it for me for about 100pounds (power inverter if thats the problem + labor + shipping) which isn't that bad but still pretty expensive.

So if its not a huge problem to change the power inverter I would just buy that part and do it myself.

    Thanks

Is there a fuse hidden within?

I recently fixed an LG LCD panel that wouldn't power up any more. It was the zener diode that had blown. Cost 13 cents for new one from Maplins.
If its out of warranty, they are easy to disassemble. You should be able to examine the power supply MB and see if part has blown.

Thx for the replies. yes I am pretty certain that the whole thing is related to a power issue. I believe background light + LCD is fine.

Now I think i could replace a power inverter/ power board or whatever its called but to figure out what specific part on the circuit port is broken (eg diode) takes some knowledge I assume.

Too bad I am not that proficient with this. I assume u had a voltmeter and figuring it out that way? And I guess u had to solder in the new diode.

I def. would prefer just to replace the power board itself. I am still not sure if a powerboard is the same as the power inverter? Anyone could clarify this. I am referring to the part that converts the 220V coming in to whatever the LCD display uses.

    Thanks

Its defiantly not an Inverter failure, this component handles the screen backlight, failure results in a dim display.

If your power led does not come on then its sounds like the powersupply

Thx for that. Thats something I wasn't sure about. So I guess its a power board and not the power inverter. I actually found the schematics for the Monitor here but for some reason I don't really see a power board. Maybe someone that has a clue about electronics can have at it.

Its definately the LCD built-in power supply thats gone. Open up the back of the LCD panel, remove the metal shielding and there should be an power supply motherboard with cables coming out of it to power backlight, etc.
Just visually inspect it for burnt out components, the MB should be scorched brown or blown, bulging capacitors.

Cool, thx. I'll open it up tonight and have a look. I can take some photos too and post it here if I don't know what to do.

Ok, I took out the power board which also seems to have the inverter on the same board but nothing looks burned or scorched. I took 2 pictures of each side maybe someone else sees something although quality is not the best.

Is there any other way to find the faulty component like with a volt meter etc.? I'd prefer not to plug the board in bc. I probably kill myself. Any suggestions are welcome. Thx.
