external insulation - planning permission

    Hi
just received planning permission for 2 storey extension and we are considering external insulation, as opposed to internal and the associated cold bridging.

However our planning consent states that "the external finish shall match the existing house".

So if we externally insulate the whole house we should be ok.

We live in an old corporation area of dublin 12, ie houses are covered in that lovely pebble dash.

One of the external insulation options has a smooth external finish.

    1) do we need planning permission to change the external look of our house?

any comments \ examples in the area would be gratefully received.

    regards
    Gary

You are taking the condition the wrong way.
"the external finish shall match the existing house" does not mean that extension and house have to be the same, it means that the extension must be pebbledash. You can't change the house to get whatever you want on the extension.

The way it stands now you need to pebble dash or get the finish that matches the closest.

There is a new thread that is going through the different insulation methods, it may be of interest to you
