Got this in an email from Environmental Officer of USI, Dave Curran

On Saturday the 20th of this month at 1.30pm, students union leaders, activists and ordinary people from all over the country will gather in Trinity College (Goldsmith Hall) for a historic mass gathering, to begin a major campaign for action on climate change.

This is the most important issue of our time, and we have a unique opportunity to make Ireland do its part to tackle climate change before it's too late. People from all colleges will be present at this public meeting, as will many non-students and environmental NGOs which will mean a great opportunity for building ties and contacts, and sharing ideas.

    Progress is being made...
This joint campaign of which we are a part IS ALREADY MAKING PROGRESS – for example just last week the Seanad debated one of our key demands (a climate change bill requiring 3% annual reductions in Co2 emissions). But we will only win this if we keep on the pressure. In our efforts we are supported by many organisations such as Friends of the Earth, An Taisce and more, but only through a mass movement can we build the kind of pressure that will force real change from our government. And only through bringing people together from all across the country can we begin to take the necessary steps in our homes, our communities and our colleges to guarantee a more sustainable future.

If you are concerned about this issue, or if you want to know more, and would like the opportunity to take part in a historic event that will launch the biggest and most important movement of our generation, then come to this pu blic gathering, on Saturday October 20th at 1.30pm in Trinity College Dublin (Goldsmith Hall). And bring your friends! Food will be provided.

    Remember:
    If not us, who?
    If not now, when?
