redundancy - to stay or go

    Background
    • Small retail biz opened in 2000, 4 employees ( 1 office manager, 3 staff)
    • All staff work fulltime till October 2000
    • October 2006-Owner/office manager asks us to reduce to 3 day week and draw stamps as biz not doing so well and cutbacks would keep it openWe all agree as we were told it would be shorterm solution to the problem.
    • We continuously request verbally over next few months if/ when we could go back to 5 days. Owner either ignores us or states can’t see if/.when we could get 5 days back as biz is slow and he couldn’t afford the 5 days wages.
    • Ultimatium given: 1 month ago. To stay open: the Office manager does 5 days at reduced salary, 1 other full time, 1 other 2 days a week, other person loses job in this biz but would get reemployed at another of his biz (not in the same role). If she does not accept this proposal he would have no other option to close
    • Office manager and owner discuss this over past 3 weeks, other options were suggested and denied. Last thursday, she eventually says cant work on reduced salary. He says if that’s her decision she must tell us that we are closing and that her refusal to accept offer was the reason. She says he can tell us himself so it is left that he would contact us, which he didn’t do
    • Being in limbo, drives me to phone owner this morning. He says that there may be another option but he wont know for certain until Monday/Tuesday. I ask is this yet another delay tactic to which he replies I’m very negative. I say I want decision for definite at Tuesday latest. He says to cross my fingers!!
    Can I get redundancy? What do you think my chances are? Is it possible that one persons decision to accept/reject an offer could effectively allow him to close the biz and not pay redundancy. i have had other jobs offers but all have fallen through as i cant give definate start date. if it closes i would get near 5k and i'm broke at the moment so it would really matter.

    I’m just so sick of all of this, its doing my head in so any suggestions, ideas or advice I’d be most grateful for
