Is it brakes (hand or foot) or shock absorbers?

its definitely brake related as its under the brake category on the nct form.Have a horrible feeling it could mean umpteen differnt things:(I think a garage needs special equipment to test this though..

It could be something as simple as the hand brake pulling way too much on one side.

Can you scan the NCT report and post, maybe someone will know after reading it?

    Richie.

here is a scan below i hope...maybe the replacement brake hose would fix this imbalance?...i'm thinking of just bringing it to a garage and ask them to replace the hose and the brake pads and see if that will pass it..

You've failed several aspects of the brake test there. 34% efficiency? The brakes on your car must be crap :)

For the rear imbalance you may need new shoes and brake drums. You may also need a new brake cylinder or two and some adjustment and in general your rear brakes need to be investigated. Even though the car will have a dual braking circuit I don't think that fixing the bulging front hose will fix the rear imbalance

At least the handbrake passed :)

Replace the hoses mentioned in the report also, as they perish over the years. They shouldnt bulge under pressure & sounds dangerous. I have new discs and pads allround (due to standard wear and tear), and the imbalance is a good deal better than the previous NCT results from 2 years ago.

One other thing, get your brakes done asap. Maybe PM Darragh29 from this website, he has a garage and says he specialises in NCT work. If you don't get the car retested by the 17th Oct you will have to pay 50 quid for a full test rather than a retest. This full test will involve checking everything again including the emissions. As your CO at high idle is quite close to failing you want to try and avoid this as it may not pass the next time.

Get front and rear flexible brake hoses replaced and have you rear drum brakes adjusted properly.

They have spotted that one pipe is bulging, they others cant be far behind and replacing all will ensure your safety for the next two years as well as improving your brakes.

A set of pipe should be around €80. Fitting and bleeding and adjusting the rears will take about 2 hours.

    I would estimate € 180 - €220 for the lot !

According to the NCT report, you've an even bigger imbalance on the front. Could be drums / shoes on the back, discs / pads on the front and or frozen or stiff calipers / slave cylinders.

Get those flexible pipes changed immediately if you've any concern for your safety (and that of others).

Your car must be seriously pulling to the left when you brake according to the NCT report??

I got my car NCT'd today and I failed on something similar to what is in this post. Just not sure what the form means exactly. Can anyone help me out? Details of the test results are attached.

I am just wondering what it all means - i.e. how much will this cost me to repair!

    Thanks!

    P.S. Car is a 1999 Toyota Yaris

Could be as well not properly calibrated / broken NCT equipment.

I went for my last NCT with perfect brakes (tested a week before on appropriate equipment) and imbalance showed over 20% - weaker on the on right side (front, rear and handbrake). Car wasn't pulling to the left when braking.
