Possible World Cup Bid!!!

There's one thing that annoys me about the whole world cup set up. Why on earth do they arrange for matches to be played in Murrayfield and Cardiff in World Cup France 2007!!! Surely France are capable of doing it themselves??? It certainly takes some of the buzz out of the country hosting. I was at home in Oz when the WC was there and there was a great atmosphere around!!!

Now, I don't know the ins and outs of it, but, could Ireland host a WC-by themselves? The country generally gets fully behind such events-Ryder Cup and Special Olympics-which would make for a great tournement. I suppose its an issue of infrastructure/stadia init?!

    Stadiums:
    Lansdowne Road (50,000)
the proposed City of Belfast Stadium (35,000 I think)
    Thomond Park (26,000)
    RDS (18,000)
    Musgrave Park (17,000)
    Donnybrook (12,500)
Ravenhill (12,300) i think it can be 19,000 with added seating

If Ireland bid for 2019 World Cup that gives you 12 years to upgrade some stadia, perhaps build a new one in Connacht-and maybe even a World Cup Stadium. I don't suppose the GAA will allow Croke Park be used no?!

France HAD to organise games in Cardiff and in Edinburgh in order to win the bid for the 2007 RWC. We didn't have a choice... It was politics. Not pretty.

Furthermore, the Président de la FFR (Fédération Française de Rugby), Bernard Lapasset, wants to be the president of the IRB so badly that he drops his pants every two minutes to please everybody... I guess it worked though as he will present himself unopposed at the next elections.

As for Ireland hosting a RWC: IMO it will never happen. At present, it's a 3-day camelback trek to cross Ireland... Public transportation is a bit of a joke and the stadiums are simply too small.

add in cardiff and Murrayfield to get the Welsh and Scotish vote and I don't see why not.

You are of course presuming Lansdowne will be finished by 2019:rolleyes:

If public transportation is fixed, infrastructure is fixed (I don't see where the teams could stay right now...), stadiums are made much bigger and Cardiff & Scotland help out, then maybe it could be successful.

France allowed those matches to be played away from home to guarantee those votes. I'm more annoyed that the next WC didn't go to Japan.

Very good point! That was indeed a huge disappointment...

I've never been there... If it's worse than Ireland then it was a huge mistake indeed.

Well, if they can have it in NZ, they sure can have it here.
