    .. but I won't! :p

I've made one or two threads like this in the past but screw it. I'm looking at this Ibanez: http://www.thomann.de/ie/ibanez_ew20wnent.htm
I know nothing about acoustics (could someone tell me the differences with dreadnoughts and jumbos if there is any worth mentioning) so I thought I'd get a few opinions before I decided to buy. I'm very close to getting this. I would go a little higher with the price if it was required, if there are any reccommendations. Asthetics have come in to play, it looks great and I'm set on it but want to make sure I'm not buying a box in which is contained pain and frustration. So, feedback? Much obliged.

    hi

i can answer one of your questions!

generally jumbos have a brighter sound than dreadnoughts
due to the difference in shape

Aw, well, ones better than none. Thanks for the reply. I'll be going ahead with this next week I think.

From my own personal listening (not scientific, mind you), I'd say dreadnoughts have more bass and better projection, while jumbos sound more "wooden" and sweeter.

The woods have such a profound impact that it's hard to make a straight comparison. A maple spruce dreadnought would probably be brighter than a mahogany cedar jumbo. But then, those combinations are unusual tbh.

In terms of acoustic design, I have heard that a dreadnought shape lends to louder projection. In personal experience, I haven't found that either shape has consistantly distinct tonal characteristics.

I like jumbos, but I'm aware that it's as much an aesthetic thing as anything else. :)

One thing I'd say is that most of what you'll read about the sound of acoustics is redundant when it comes to guitars made from laminate woods.
