Jonah Hill is a funny guy.. and completely stole the show (along with Paul Rudd) in 'Knocked Up' and he's very good in this. But Christ, this was just dick and fart jokes mostly. It's not intelligent humour people!

It was written by a 13 year old. What do you expect?

Firstly, it was written by 2 people - Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen.

Secondly, they started the script when they were 13. Which (judging by Seth Rogen's age) was about 12 years ago. You'd think with those 12 years they could somewhat revise the script and think maybe we'll throw out one or two of the dick and fart jokes in favour of something a little more clever.

Thirdly, Nikki Reed was about the same age when she wrote 'Thirteen'... and that had a distinct lack of dick and fart jokes.

Fourthly.. the "it's written by a 13 year old" excuse just doesn't cut it.

its possibly one of the funniest movies I've seen this year (although hot rod is close). If your looking for something more sophisticated go see Atonment or Michael Clayton and stop complaining.

Humour can be sophisticated too, y'know. "Superbad" is far from it and I also found it quite disappointing as did others I went to see it with.

Yup right on the money. Superbad is a funny film, and much funnier than your typical teen comedy, but it is in no way the funniest film of the last decade, as so many seem to have claimed. I was really looking foward to it and in the end felt very let down, and my friends who were equally anticpating it were also very disapointed by the whole experience.

When compared to the hilarious likes of Little Miss Sunshine and Knocked Up (just to give two recent examples that spring to mind that actually have some depth as well as the laughs), it really can't compare.

So every film that's written by a 13 year old must be of Oscar quality? A little unfair, isn't it? And Thirteen wasn't a comedy, so it's different. At that age ask what most teenagers think is funny and you can hardly be surprised if their answers seem imature to you, mainly because they haven't matured yet.

And do you not think that in those 12 years, the writers might still find the jokes funny? Many people who watched the film, found it funny, so why can't the writers?

Knocked up was not as funny I thought. I did go to see Superbad first and while I'll admit that it will not stand the test of time, it's been a long time since a movie has made me lagh out loud so much.

Yeah I think this movie goes to show that even 'immature' humour can be very funny if done properly.

    From here

I went to see this last night having heard good things about it. Two mates told me in the last week to go and see it because it's hilarious. One, who isn't a fan of the American Pie type American humour, said he even enjoyed it. So I went in expecting a good laugh.
Very poor movie. It really wasn't very funny at all. There were a few parts that were funny but nothing side-splittingly good. The way the main character speaks about sex and girls is really blunt and tries to be funny in that regard but it honestly just came across very juvenile. Also the few times where the language was funny lost impact (and interest) because the continual use of it was so exhaustive that it just became boring.
Really expected more from it and was very disappointed with the level of humour. The poor girlfriend was bored silly after five minutes.

I thought it was good for what it was. I wasn't expecting high-brow entertainment, the films called Superbad ffs.

Just came out here yesterday...What a load of bollocks...wanted to leave the cinema...Didn't so much as crack a smile through the whole thing....Completely pointless and the whole storyline with the cops is painfullly drawn out and laboured. American Pie is ~743 times better than this smutty rubbish.

    Ok.

This movie has gone in my top 3 all time favourite movies. Other people may not agree, but thats why it is MY top 3.

Basically, ive never laughed so much in my life, i went to see it on opening day in Dundrum and it was packed and i have never witnessed such outrageous scenes of laughter, people not being able to breath etc.

I went to see it a 2nd time because i missed most of it due to laughing.

If you thought the jokes were too immature, well then im glad you wasted €7 for not knowing what you were going to see.

It may not win any awards, but its just funny s**t, and i love it. Seriously not a film to take a girl too, its very laddish. Also the fact that i am a teenager (18) and this film is directed at me is another reason for loving it. I was 10 when American Pie came out so i didnt really get the whole thing... But this is the American Pie for my generation.

Maybe its an age thing then...coz as I said, I didnt crack a smile...American PIE ftw!

This has to be one of the worst films that I have ever seen, I even gave it a second chance after walking out halfway through the first time. (lasted slightly longer the second time)

Jonah Hill destroys the whole film, he is just a terrible actor and is not funny in any way.

I really enjoyed this film, every film doesn't have to be deep and meaningful most people in the cinema seemed to be laughing plus it got very good reviews (87% rotten tomatoes). People who didn't like it seem to be the minority.
