Seeking Engineer for expanding company

    Hi everyone,

    My dad runs an engineering company in the Cavan region and is desperately looking to take on an Engineer who will look after the running of a number of projects.

    The company in question is relatively small (~ 10-15 employees) but is expanding quickly. As I have mentioned he/she will be responsible for the running of a number of projects. This will allow my dad to spend his time looking after the general running of the company. He simply can't handle both at the moment.

    After reading some of the threads in relation to recruitment agencies I am very wary about going down that road and we're hoping to find a suitable candidate ourselves.

    I guess what I am asking is what is the best way to get a job vacancy out there so that it is seen by the most suitable candidates. We're not afraid to spend money doing this if it means we end up with the right person.

    Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    CJ

    The company in question specialises mostly in the manufacture of carbon steel and stainless steel pressure vessels, including storage tanks and vacuum tankers of all dimensions.

    There's also the production of aluminium products. Storage tanks, feed hoppers, walkways, that kind of thing. Quite a lot of general steel fabrication also along with some structural steel work.

    The company is also involved in water/effluent treatment projects with both private companies and government agencies. This is an area where they are expanding very quickly and it's an area that has grown quite a lot in recent years as you might imagine. The environment is very much a focus for a lot of people right now.

    That's about it really. If I think of anything else I'll be sure to post it.

    Thank you for your interest.

    Sounds like a Mechanical Engineer is what you need. Preferably one with Manufacturing. Awareness of environmental regulations and requirements would be an advantage.

    If I was you I'd send an email (with the description of the work that you've given here) to the careers office in a couple of colleges and ask them to forward it to all graduates on their list. Ask anyone interested to email their CV to you, show them to your father and anyone else who would know what to look for and narrow it down from there.

    For example;
    Here are details on the BA BAI (Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering) from Trinity College, Dublin:

    And here's how an employer can contact TCD's Careers Office:

    Best of luck. Sounds like an interesting and varied job. I'd apply myself but I'm in Kildare. :)
