    Hi

Just a few quick questions to see if its just me that feels slightly annoyed when things don't seem to be going you're way!!

Work for a major computer company and been with them a number of years.

Applied to work in a different area a while back (Networking) within the same company as I had a Cisco CCNA qualification and previous cable laying experience. The job spec was at the time requiring a CCNA but 2 people who did not have it got the job. these things happen so fair enough.
A few months later got a phone call from HR saying that they would like to offer me a job on the networking side due to my previous interview and of course I was delighted. The move from my department to the new place would take approx 3 months.
My managers and work colleges were informed, after 3 months it moved to 4, then 5...to 6 months then they told me that the job would not be happening.

I felt very annoyed and upset as my home life had changed to take into account the different shift pattern and also any chance of promotion within my department would not be coming my way when they knew I wanted to leave before. But again these things happen.... so again fair enough, learn and move on

Made a point that if any more jobs came up that I was interested in that I would be more fully trained and Qualified.

So started applying again within my company after gaining more Qualifications, from Microsoft, Linux, Security (all the colors of the rainbow!!)

I applied and it goes like this

1..No response, but 2 people within my department get the job who do not have my training or experience
2..Great technical interview (networking, windows,Linux all the things I'm trained in) 2nd Interview went well, job went to someone who came back to that department and I was told that myself and another person would have been the next 2 people to be inline for that job
3..no response, when emailed to let them know That I have another Cert, HR sent me a email saying how good a interview I had but did not have the right qualification etc, etc....But the funny thing was, I did NOT have a interview and again the job went to someone who was working there, beforehand under contract....fair enough, well not really but let it go again this time.

All of the above, I have taken in my stride as these things happen and I have just got more training in case it was needed for a job outside my department
But the final straw came a few weeks back..
Applied for a job..so did numerous other people
HR came back with details of my first technical interview...which I had and it went brilliantly as I am trained in that Area
other people who had their first technical interview coming up, came to me to get info on questions and answers (I know, I know pretty stupid, its not the best for me but did not mind as they are my friends and thats the way I am!!)

But then HR then phoned these people while I was there saying there was NO need for them to have technical interviews as they are working in such and such a department (the same one as me, but yet I had to done one)!!, thats never happened before..

So they went straight to the 2nd interview and a few, got the job, One that I know will be going on a training course as soon as they move into the job to get trained in some thing that I have already.

I believe (99%) that I was the most qualified person there...and had a technical interview...which went very well as I was trained in those fields
Others had no technical interview and were less qualified, was this fair?

Any one with a opinion or a Idea, I would love to hear it..
    Thks again

One scenario for you to consider is if your immediate manager / boss is having a word with HR on the sly telling them to not offer you any positions because you are to valued in your current role/dept and it would be hassle to replace you.

Now, I know that this practice is not allowed but I also know that it goes on in all large companies. I was turned down for a job years ago within the same company which I knew I should have got. Turns out my boss put a stop on it (because he didn't want the hassle of replacing me) and someone from outside the company got the job.

This is just an possibility as to why you can't get the job you want, I may be way of the mark - but it happened to me so who know's?

assuming you are the most qualified etc

it sounds like someone somewhere in a position that matters simply dosnt like you

i say simply but it is completely out of order.....have you had run ins with anyone in the company before?

    Hi keefg

As my old manager knew that I was waiting for 6 months to leave the department to a job that I wanted more, he knew that I would be leaving eventually
Its hard, once you have you're 'moving head' to change..

    Hi PeakOutput

No, Never had a run in with anyone
to be honest, I always get on with everyone...from the managers to the Joe's like me
I have always enjoyed working with people in my area (thankfully)

Have you asked for feedback from HR on your interviews?
They may not be basing their decisions on the technical aspect alone
