Flatscreen monitor spontaneously going into standby

Acer 1916 19" flatscreen monitor. I have no other problems with this monitor. LAtely it just randomly cuts to standby mode (when I'm using the computer) and then cuts back to action mode (as in normal display mode).

This usually hapens a few times in quick successtion, but the switch back and forth can go on for maybe 10 minutes? Again this is all totally random. There's no apttern to program usage, no power issues (that I'm aware of), this just happens at totally random intervals.

I did install an AGP8X ATI Radeon 1550 a few weeks back, as well as adding another Gig of DDR RAM to the motherboard, but I don't think either of these are connected to the monitor problem since that didn't start until a few weeks after the upgrades.

I'm going to track down the most up to date drivers for both the monitor and my new graphics card this evening and hope that fixes the problem, just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts as to what might be causing this?

One last thing, if I leave the computer on, but turn off the monitor it will spontaneously power itself up and down, again this is totally random.
