Northside People - Free Delivery

I live in Clontarf and over the last few weeks I've been getting a Northside People stuffed into my postbox once a week.

The problem is that I live in an apartment and we have a very small "posthole" so when I say it is stuffed I really mean it. They were never intended to take newspapers.

You're left with a newspaper sticking out of the postbox which
    (a) makes it very obvious whether or not you've been at home that day
    (b) and if the postman comes along to deliver an important letter after the paper the letter is left sticking out also.

Do you think there's anyway I can get this stopped???

I'm not certain but I'd imagine you could tell The Northside People you want to be taken off their mailing list... t
Now they probably don't have a mailing list, just someone who delivers to every house in the area, but that's their problem and not yours.

No matter what way its delivered to your door (by hand or post) you can tell them you consider it unsolicited and will take the appropriate action if it continues to be delivered to your door.

If it doesn't stop you can report them to the data protection commissioner - at the very least you can go to them now to see what your rights are.

Maybe stick a note of some sort on your mailbox saying "Please don't deliver any Northside People newspapers to [your address]. Thank you."

    That might work if
    (a) The people delivering can read English
    (b) They can be bothered to read it

    :)

have you tried it? I have and - amazingly - it works.

"no papers, flyers or leaflets please".

Really? I'd be pleasantly surprised if it did the job but I might give it a try. It's either that or an irate phone call to the Northside people :)

    Quite true.

As for going to the Data Protection Commissioner, forget it. Is the paper specifically addressed to you? Not it is not. They don't maintain a mailing list, they just annonymously post it to all households in their catchment area.

What we need in this country is a 'pas des pub' scheme like they have in Belgium. Basically it's a little sticker you put next to your letterbox with the work pub crossed out in a red-circle indicating that you do not wish to receive flyers, free papers, etc.

One for the Greens I think.

I couldn't agree with you more. A scheme like that would make a huge dent in waste production, and it would be very popular.

The amount of junk mail we get is ridiculous.

That paper is a rag even if it's free.

I've never ever seen a positive headline.
The headline is guranteed is contain, SHOCK, CRISES, MELTDOWN, DISGRACEFUL or some similar story.

And the main story is usually about some NIMBY complaining about something. The Portmarnock residents bitching about how the airport will ruin their house prices is the topical story this month.

Just once, I want to see a positive headline when I see the paper.
Maybe Bertie was right about that moaners should kill themselves.

Time for me to write a letter to the editor. I've never done that before
