I'm starting in TCD this week and was wondering if there was a way of getting a discount on a full copy of XP (home or Pro) because I'm a student?

    Thanks,
    Griz

Euuuww! Dont ask us about XP!! Even if you want to run it on a Mac. You will upset us by even mentioning it ;)

    Yeah, I know :o

I'd try others options first eg Parallels. But I've heard mixed results from them.

Oh we have no problem talking to you about HOW to run XP on Mac, or what the best options are. Just don't ask us about the Microsoft product itself or buying it ;)

The choice between bootcamp/parallels/fusion largely depends on the intended use etc. Lots of threads on here talking about the various options.

You can get discounted M$ stuff at www.software4students.ie , but be aware that Bootcamp won't run on Tiger once Leopard is out..

That's what the word on the street is. Since Bootcamp thus far has been a beta, but it'll be a full feature in Leopard, they'll be discontinuing it on Tiger machines.

I understood Bootcamp just wouldn't be supported after Leopard, not disabled.

This is what I would have expected. But....

    http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/01/boot-camp-to-require-leopard/
"The license to use Boot Camp Beta expires when Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is available to the public. To continue using Boot Camp at that time, upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard."

I still think that means that they just won't support it on Tiger and that they won't update the Tiger version.

If all else fails then you can upgrade to Leopard - obviously that will cost.

Its not gonna stop working if you already have it "installed". All boot camp does is "assist" you in partitioning and provide you with a driver cd.

Perhaps the bootcamp tool that create/destroys partitions may stop working but even then you can do partitioning the good old fashioned manual command line way like I did. (Mac OS, Winblows and Linux on my mbp beauty)

The only thing I used bootcamp for was the drivers cd, and I could have downloaded drivers from the net.
