    It's a single :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,907 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

I won't be able to test it out as my PC's MoBo fried and it's too weak to run CoD3 anyway... Was going to get a proper PC for CoD3 (8800 GTX and all that) but I decided against it as it was really expensive and I just don't have the time to play online anymore with my new job!

Looks like yahoo have made a balls of it. No one is able to download it fully by the looks of it. 1.4gb single player demo. Can't even get 1.4mb lol.

Its on fileplanet, torrent and a few others now - seems to have been getting momentum.

Got it from the yahoo link and it downloaded at full speed, very short demo, about 15-20 mins and its completed.
It does look good, feels alot like cod2 though which is a pity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,577 ✭✭✭CyberGhost

Yea, kinda feels like a CoD2 mod, I like it, but I don't know, I still can't get over how s****y AK looks and how G3 sounds, just compare to the BF2 sound of the gun.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭kinkstr

I thought the sounds in general were a bit of a let down, the sound of a grenade hitting the ground beside you is the exact same as it was in cod2.
Dont think the rifles have a semi auto mode either which is a shame.
The heavy machine guns seem to have very little recoil, they've kept the hold your breath to steady your aim feature from cod2 aswel.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

I must agree with you guys, its like a COD2 mod.
As kinkstr said some sounds are same as COD2 which is a bit lame, and the recoil is just like COD2 ie non existant.

Maybe they sound like that because that's what they sound like in real life...

    The Demo was absolutely awesome.

Do they? So all other games that have different nade sounds are wrong? :)

Plus WW2 nades must sound the same as modern nades? :)

It's on its way down my pipe at the moment...it may get pushed aside however with the ut3 demo also on its way.

Or maybe they sound like that because they were to lazy to use new sounds.

Also nice to see they put a trench gun in to.

Whether they're world war 2 nades or modern nades, they're still chunks of metal hitting the ground. They should sound the same.

Yes, I'm sure when they were writing the millions of lines of code for CoD4, they stopped a few lines short with the nades because they were lazy. All the trouble they went to for creating a next generation game, and they suddenly got lazy when it came to the nades. I'm sure that's exactly what happened. That's exactly it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,542 ✭✭✭kinkstr

Well it was laziness, the g3 sounds alot like the mp44, the new shot gun is the old trench gun, when your being hiy by enemy fire it animation and sounds are just cod2 sounds.
All the trouble they went to for creating a next generation game

What trouble did they go to? reskinned weapons, a few new ones.
They've had years to make this game and this is what they came up with, laziness as far as i can see.

Weapons sounding similar is not laziness. It's weapons sounding the same. For every different sound in the game, they record the real sounds in real life, then process the clips in a studio so they can fit the game mechanics.

Considering that CoD4 has a brand new game engine, CoD4 is not simply CoD2 reskined. The engine may be similar to previous CoD engines which originally used the Quake game engine, but again, it is not the same. It is a hell of a lot more advanced with some of the new physics in it. Something being the same as something else is vastly different to something being similar to something else. You should stop trying to discredit the developers when you really don't seem to have a clue.

I have to say I am well impressed with the demo. Its amazing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭BKtje

It looks stunning and remember that this is just a demo. I'm sure they will tweak/change bits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,644 ✭✭✭Conar

I think the graphics are amazing.
Best looking graphics I've seen by a long shot.

Not sure about the game though, the demo bored me a bit.
I found myself just wanting to get around the next corner so I could see the next scene not really caring about the stream of enemies.

I tried out the demo last nite. I was pleased with it, it was pretty absorbing, with all the action.
I have to aggree with some of you guys, the sounds really disappointed me. The weapon skins themselves are fine, but I was surprised with the quality of the sounds. Now I don't really know if the sounds are/aren't true to life, either way I found them way too weak.
The ak sounds like an airsoft gun, it would be SO much better with the cs1.6 sound! I think a super soaker would be more intimidating than the G3, the m4 is like popping bubble rap.
I hate that fecking nade sound they kept from cod2 "tinckle-tinckle-tinckle". The iraqis scream with exactly the same sounds as the enemys in cod2. I don't really mind that, since a scream is a scream, just shows they did as little as possible with the sounds. How easy is it to record someone screaming..

And why the hell is there no firing modes, semi/burst/auto. Did I miss something in controls, I mean I can't believe there is no semi, its like a stupid joke.
The wall penetration is pretty nice, more realistic, like when the enemies on the balcony duck down and you just rape them through the wall, its nice.
Killing an enemy and him letting off his gun/rpg while falling is also cool.
In the night fighting, when a flare goes up, the graphics are really impressive.

I think I will buy it, but if you didn't like cod2 you won't like this, you guys said it, it is like a mod. I'm running it on a p4 3ghz with a gf6800LE, unfortunately the sounds won't change when my quad core and new gfx card arrive next week..

Anyone play the demo, it's pretty damn sweet! And runs great, not like some other demos... *glares at Crysis*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,907 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

Guys, what kind of PC Spec. do you have in order to run this new edition of CoD smoothly? My old PC's MoBo died and I'm thinking of an upgrade but don't know how much I'll have to invest to play CoD4 smoothly. I want to spend as little as possible...

    What's your PC spec humanji?

    What's your PC spec humanji?

    Hey Steffano.
COD4 run flawlessly on mine with everything turned up as high as it will go on 1280x1024 which is the highest my monitor will go.
    I've got a Core2Duo E6600 OC'd to 3.2GHz
4GB OCZ PC6400 Platinum memory tightened slightly to 4-4-4-12
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS KO ACS³ / 320MB
    Vista 64Bit

Not sure what your budget would be but hope that helps.

    Thanks Conar!

Glad to see CoD4 runs perfect with your config! I was thining of getting a similar system myself only with the 8800GTX. We'll wait until after Xmas to see if I can afford it...

    Enjoy CoD4 (you lucky b@st@rd! :p)

Yeah they used the same death screams as cod2 and if you no clip to behind the boarded up mgs they're classed as mg42s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,907 ✭✭✭Steffano2002

So CoD4 is a bit of a CoD2 with MOD is it?

God I wish I had a PC!!!

Well some of it yes, but i've heard from mappers and moders that it there is difference unlike the change from cod:uo to cod2 which was meant to has many similar things, but not that you'll see cod2 buildings and Germans lying around, also no ctf and a fair few new game types. Which should be good cause was getting sick of ctf and alike, nothing like a good auld realism mod mixed with s&d, also putting mods in will make the server unranked.
