I've a silly tattoo from way back when, tis my initials in indian ink (dark blue). Would it be possible to get it tattoo'd over without worrying about the underlying tattoo or would i have to use dark ink over it?

Yeah that should be no problem to any decent tattoo artist. They will design something that will cover the indian ink, it doesn't necessarily have to be a dark tat. They can tattoo white ink over the old tattoo and then go over it again when it's healed with colour for the new one.
